My grandfather had to read the Stone Fox for his summer reading project. He needed the paper version, as they use it for school. The book arrived two days after being ordered and he started reading it right away. The book is full of details about the boy and his dog. It gives great insight into the way that lives people may not be as affluent as others. It is sad, but true to the world and how things sometimes work out. Book of its own is good for beginners.

   Great book.
This was an assigned book for my 4th grader and she loved it. Be warned that the ending of the book is really sad and my daughter was extremely upset. I wish now that I would have read it before time, so that I could prepare her for it.

I really enjoyed reading this book a lot ''. This was the second reading for it because I read it in school and then ordered it from the book to read my little sister. The only reason why I gave this book four stars was because the ending was abrupt and sad. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a story, but is okay when it gets sad.

I read it to my grandsons. It is a sweet, sad story of a boy who is trying to solve a family problem. Though I understood the ending, I teared up.

   Read first before gifting - you may change your mind
Be nice in size and easy reading. I have received this for my 8 - year-old grandson who loves to read. I first give the books before gifting, and sadly this one I could not proof. I personally did not care for the tramatic event and the way the author did not address the feelings of the child, and instead focused on the race. I am certain that the realists may have no problem with it. It just didn 't work for me.

   Great for kids and adults!
My son was required to purchase this book for school and preparing it on my Kindle Fire was easy and fast. I like that he is older and reading books that I enjoy as well. This is a classic book about a young hero that you 'll need a few Kleenexs at the end!

   A beautiful read, but have tissues at the ready!
Book 12 of 2022 - Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner, I have always loved to read. As a child, I would ask for book lists to read during the summer, while reading them. In high school, I volunteered at the library in the summer, and I volunteered in the library. Anything to get my hands on the words. One of my favorites was Stone Fox's. I remember being so upset when one of my own kiddos spoiled the ending for her younger brother! This book seems very short as an adult. Pros : I remember reading it as a kid and it took me a while to recover! I enjoy the pictures and descriptions of the characters. I certainly did not understand Willy's grandfather's illness as a child. Cons No Cons No cons. A beautiful little story that resonates with you long after you’re done! Bring Tissues!    Tragic ending!
Spoiler Alert : What kind of book kills the dog? We read this book to our grandchildren and, when the dog died, burst into tears. Her aunt also burst into tears.

   Very sad
It has a happy and abrupt ending... especially for a children's book. I'm surprised '' that this is so popular. It seems that the ending would leave children disturbed and crying. Very tragic, but it may be trying to promote a negative message about sled dog races. I 'd rather have my child read facts about how dogs are taken cared for and treated on the trails from reputable sources instead of sharing this story. Neither does it seems believable that a ten year old and his dog would do the things that the story claims.
