Great book and essential reading

This is the first book I read from J.D. Greear is a little bit different. Normally, I don 't believe that such a basic book was essential, to be written, then I became pastor. I first saw the disconnect between continuing faith, the love of God, and obedience. Often I hear the mentality of I walked an aisle 40 years ago so that I'm good. Greear leads the reader to consider why merely inviting Jesus into one's heart is not enough. And he does for us the service of exploring common avenues of thought-provoking errors of thinking. I was never sure in what direction he was going. And I am not sure that he did. A welcome addition and easily recommended.

This book spoke directly to my deepest struggle with Doubting my salvation. Having grown up always knowing Jesus and not having a dramatic conversion, I have always doubted and asked Jesus to save me whenever I fall short. JD Greear cuts right to the heart of the issue, reminding us that it is not by our good works or try-hard-for-Jesus lifestyle that secures us a seat in Heaven, but it is all about Christ's work on the cross. We can now rest assured that we are trusting Christ for our righteousness and that he keeps his word. Mr. Greear, thank you for articulating and prescribing the truth for this spiritual ailment!

It is a very well written book that explains how we can be misled by our feelings as well as how Satan can use this feeling to deceive us. Plus a lot more in depth study to help you know whether you are saved or not if you are questioning it.

This was one of the best books I have ever read in a long time. It challenges some of the traditions that church people have created relating to the process of saving. If you want more assurance about your own salvation or you want to learn how to explain it better to others, this is a great book.

It was also well written and provocatively researched. While I am not convinced that everybody wrestles with this question, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wrestles with knowing how to know that they are saved. I thought he did an excellent job at showing how the answer to both doubt and assurance is trusting in the finished work of Jesus.

It is really great for newbie - Christians and old timers alike. He explores a problem that many Christians struggle with and offers both comfort and solutions. The book is not written in the high language, but is not either dumb or preachy. It is highly recommended!

I wish I had this book earlier in life. It answers a lot of questions about faith and assurance of faith and leads you back to the most important thing for anyone, the Gospel. He supports his points with biblical illustrations and good references. In the future, I will probably read this book again.

This book helped me realize so many different things, but most importantly it helped me to examine my doubts and decide why I was having them. After reading this, I was able to find peace that I am saved, but Satan wanted to keep me from having the peace that God has for me.

I bought this book after reading the foreword, about “ the mis-leading and sometimes faulty ways of sharing the gospel â€... and then came across the above excerpts I posted above. Although I can clearly not speak for the rest of the book because I haven t read it, this part was to me a red flag! In my opinion, and I believe from what I have studied on my own after being in a Southern Baptist Church for 25 years, the Gospel of Salvation is part of the problem of lack of assurance in our churches.
