Following on the heels of Lisa Cron's breakout first book, Wired for Story, this writing guide reveals how to use cognitive storytelling strategies to build a scene-by-scene blueprint for a riveting story.
Story Genius is a foolproof program that saves writers from penning hundreds of pages only to realize that something's not working and they have to start again. Informed by story consultant Lisa Cron's science-based insights into how story structure is built into the architecture of the brain, this guide shows writers how to plumb the nitty-gritty details of their raw idea to organically generate a story scene by scene. Once writers reach the end of Cron's program, they will have both a blueprint that works and plenty of compelling writing suitable for their finished novel--allowing them to write forward with confidence.

A strong in depth analysis of the issue

I thought it was the best book on '' How to Write a Strong and Effective Novel . It showed the difference between the story and the plot. Story involves the personal interests of the characters and their characters's desires. Plot is driven by surface events and agorns that occur, but without a character that you find interesting and compelling, the novel is not something you read until completion.

VERY useful.

The book is great and was delivered quickly, and I have no complaints. But why make a note that it was hand delivered to a resident, when it was left on my porch when nobody was home?

A must-have for every writer!
Derived From Web , Aug 2, 2020
I finished this book to learn more about storytelling, but as I picked it up, it is clear that storytelling is just the beginning. The first half of this book is full of human insights on psychology and the amazing motivation behind sharing stories. I have spent hours reflecting on what I learned and this book changed my life. Not only are stories for entertainment ; they are a survival tool. We have evolved to use stories to keep each other safe, share important lessons and navigate the social challenges of human life. If you are a writer, this is obviously required reading. But I have to strongly recommend this book to anyone who teaches, speaks to others, sells, markets, leads, or just loves to understand the art of captivation. I am excited to read this book again and again!

Overrated

I received this book because two people recommended it. I am not sure if it is worth the purchase. For me it was a lot of talking about her opinion, which is fine, however, that was not what I picked the book for. I thought it would be more of a how - to write it ''. Here there are a few good areas, but it takes a while to get to the point and give you anything helpful in your writing. She also gives scene cards that are great to work an idea out. This should have been, however, an essay. There is just not enough for a full length book.

Great

This book zeroes in on the deeply held desires that drive characters, the internal obstacles that impede the achievement of the same character, and how we can write stories that facilitate the evolution of the character's self.

Change the way you write.
Derived From Web , Aug 10, 2018
I'm still working through the book, but it has been eye-opening on how to develop authentic characters, digging into every why and how to write in a way I haven't been exposed in other books or writing courses. By following the advice and the exercises provided by this book, I am rewriting my novel using a new thought process and understanding. I would recommend this book to any new writer highly.
