Strong Poison is book #1 in the Lord Peter Wimsey & Harriet Vane (Original Series) Book Series and comes before The Five Red Herrings
From great characters to even greater people
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
The transformation of very clever and entertaining but ultimately two- dimensional mystery characters into three- dimensional people you can actually care about, as well as enjoy, is achieved by Strong Poison. If you read Strong Poison, you won't appreciate the depth of Sayers' achievement. If you want to read the stories in chronological order, you should read the four Vane novels first. The first is Have His Carcase, the second is Gaudy Night, and the third is Busman's honeymoon. I envy you if you are new to this place. You will have a lot of pleasure. Have a great time!

Falls a little short in the humor readers have come to love
Derived From Web , May 28, 2021
Strong Poison is fun to read because of the mysteries of Wimsey. The characters are interesting and unique, hilarious in their speech, phrases and quirks, and most play important roles. He reigns supreme in humor. Lord Peter appears less often and is shorter in duration, which is why Strong Poison falls a little short. The author loosened up over time to reach the level of supreme humor and sit she was capable of, which may be why the plot line is taken more seriously here than in later books. This book is a great read for anyone who loves Lord Peter and his associates.

Mostly boring
Derived From Web , May 24, 2021
It was very difficult to read through the judge's comments to the jury. This tediously boring pattern is followed by just over half of the novel until Miss Climpson and Miss Murchison are involved in helping to identify the real culprit. It took a few weeks of reading a chapter a day until the question of how everything would fit together came to the fore. It's not a complete waste of time and it's not dying to continue the series.

Best Wimsey Novel
Derived From Web , Apr 1, 2021
For me, the best Lord Peter Wimsey novel is Strong Poison. The secretary of Lord Peter is on a jury and holds out for the innocence of the accused poisoner. When the jury fails to reach a decision, Peter decides to prove his innocence with the help of the ladies of the Cattery. Strong Poison is a good place to start if you' ve never read any of the Sayers mysteries.

Lord Peter, need I say more?
Derived From Web , Jul 28, 2020
The Lord Peter Winsey is among the best English mysteries. For the first time, our hero will be important to the person who appears here. Lord Peter was the second son of a duke and he was an important man. He was an excellent athlete, a graduate from Oxford, a musician, a man of taste, and a war hero. It goes on etc. He was an amateur detective, he was rich and did it for pleasure. If you are interested, hop in. Are you looking for Whose body? The series begins with the first one. You' re ready for a trill. Enjoy. Peter is a man.

Another great mystery
Derived From Web , Nov 25, 2018
I like the mysteries of Peter Wimsey. This is equally good as the others. They are not the same as the Agatha Christie mysteries. It seems like AC books are rural mysteries. Oscar Wilde mysteries are more similar to the ones of Dorothy Sayers. I enjoy both authors works. This book is very good.
