Book Overview

Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy.

Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

Why doesn't God do something about suffering? He has, He did, He is, and He will.

Suffering and love are inexplicably linked, as God's love for His people is evidenced in His sending Jesus to carry our sins, griefs, and sufferings on the cross, sacrificially taking what was not His on Himself so that we would not be required to carry it. He has walked the ultimate path of suffering, and He has won victory on our behalf.

This truth led Elisabeth to say, Whatever is in the cup that God is offering to me, whether it be pain and sorrow and suffering and grief along with the many more joys, I'm willing to take it because I trust Him.

Because suffering is never for nothing.

Great Service, Great Book - TOTALLY RECOMMENDED
This book is very beautiful, I absolutely recommend it. The delivery was great, too, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Overall, a great experience, said Dr. Goin.

   A Biblical Perspective
The Bible tells us that God's ways are high above our ways as the heavens are above. In other words, we are never going to figure out God. In our earthly perspective we don't want to compromise comfort, safety or convenience, he said. He added that although God created the universe, He did not create the image of God. He wants so much more for us, too. As a diamond will remain a piece of coal without pressure or heat, it will not wear. He also tells us that we will never grow into the person he designed us to be without the refiners fire. Very pleasant, but very necessary. This may be through direct ministry or by intercession in prayer. She says God gives us all the power to do good works, but He also tells us to be willing to give back to him. Whether we are blessed or suffering, we are called to love one another. I hope you will read this book and gain a fresh understanding of the amazing work that will do in your life if you offer it back to God, he said.

   White book jackets
Perhaps some un-inked newsprint or tissue paper would be in order? I know that may seem frivolous with all of this, but then again, I'm not that old. It leaves a marvelous impression by indicating that you care, he said. Just sayin't gonna lie. Thanks for leaving a message.

   A MUST READ
It's hard to imagine a better Christian writer than Elisabeth Elliot. One of my favourite books of all time is Passion and Purity, by Elizabeth Gilbert. Even if I didn't read the entire book, I would still repent and read the part that really touched me.

   Great read!
Rich in theology and practical everyday wisdom, Paul's book is a must-have for any Christian. Zilkha conceded defeat in the first round of the tournament. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about Malvo, you can't help but wonder why he would question such difficult subjects. Highly recommend!

Every Christian needs to read this book
I love everything about this one, but this one especially speaks to hurting hearts. It's a very sobering read, and we all need to take stock of our times.

   Classic Elisabeth Elliot
For those of us who know and love “Aunt Betty” Elliot's writing, this is just more of the same. It has been so long since we were privileged to get something new from her, or maybe because this book feels especially like she is just talking to you, whatever the reason, I don't remember ever enjoying any of her books more.

First book I've read from Elisabeth Elliot and I was not disappointed.
A short, sweet book. We, as humans, may not always understand the trials in our lives but we have a mighty God who knows exactly what He's doing in the midst of our never ending pain? The Harrisons’ lawyer Paul LiCalsi said: “There were some very serious questions about the seizure. She also drew attention to the connection between offering and God's will. It's hard for us to let go and hand things over to God because we so badly want to be in control of our own lives, over ourselves destiny, but He can use us as He is currently and make a miracle out of it for His namesake. This book definitely is an eye opener and I recommend it to anyone regardless of what season your life is in right now.
