Book Overview

The Christian church has a long tradition of systematic theology, that is, studying theology and doctrine organized around fairly standard categories such as the Word of God, redemption, and Jesus Christ. This introduction to systematic theology has several distinctive features: - A strong emphasis on the scriptural basis for each doctrine and teaching - Clear writing, with technical terms kept to a minimum - A contemporary approach, treating subjects of special interest to the church today - A friendly tone, appealing to the emotions and the spirit as well as the intellect - Frequent application to life - Resources for worship with each chapter - Bibliographies with each chapter that cross-reference subjects to a wide range of other systematic theologies.

Systematic Theology for the 4.5 to 5 letter Calvinist
There is probably a simple check to determine if Grudem's systematic theology is for you. God is sovereign or is God's word.

   Everyone LOVES This Book!
My husband read this book in seminary first. He then commented on how readable it is... and how he feels that theology is good and sound... really biblically based. Since then, he has found more and more people who agree with him! He is now a pastor, and many from the church also love this book! We found a super sale on them before Christmas so we ordered 15 for the people at the church... they sold quickly! So we sold more... and those ordered too! I am glad that the Talbot School of Theology has exposed my husband to this book! You won 't want to miss this one!

   Outstanding and accessible resource
A comprehensive, deeply researched, and incredibly readable overview of systematic theology. Grudem is a leading field expert, but this book is as accessible and easy to understand as it is thorough and comprehensive. Grudem articulates a clearly biblical foundation for theology and handles issues of doctrinal dispute clearly and responsibly.

   Surprisingly digestible
I was delighted to find how truly consumable and enjoyable this resource is. My expectation of systematic theology as a layman was to encounter a technically challenging and theoretical textbook. The application at the end of each chapter with questions to think about and hymns that address the theme were a real gem. If you are thinking of reading his summary work, instead of Biblical theology, don 't. It is not as difficult as you might think.

   contemporary systematic theology
There are those of Norman Geisler, Paul Tillch, Lewis Sperry Chafer, Karl Barth and countless others. They are summaries of the major teachings of Christian faith. Wayne Grudem was formerly Professor of Religious Divinity School at the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. This book contains doctrines such as the doctrine of man, the doctrine of Christ and the Holy Spirit, the word and the doctrine of God. What is interesting about this systematic theology is that each section has an extensive bibliography, Scripture - memory passages and hymns. These properties make the book not only beneficial to a scholar or pastor, but also to a religious educator or church musician.

I'm giving this a good review because even though I don't agree with Wayne ...
I give this a good review, because I don 't agree with Wayne Grudem on several important points, I felt like his treatment of the issues was more than fair and it was a good read. Always good to receive other perspectives on theological issues from respected scholars like Grudem.

A classic work for every Christian to read
Since I bought it, they came out with a second volume adding several hundred pages--I'm tempted to get this one as well. You may not agree with everything, but Grudem offers for his points plenty of biblical support. 215, we are to see and to study what is true for ourselves. Yes, read the Bible, and then consider the words of gifted scholars to determine how we will now live. I highly recommend Grudem's resource for every evangelical Christian.

Everything you ever wanted to know in one source!
I read it only when I ate meals and it took me nine months to get through! Due to the depth and breadth of the material presented, read a few chapters more than once. You can skip the thread according to your interests and not lose it. It was hard to believe that a chapter could be written about what seemed to be a small theme, but the engaging style and attention to detail allowed for profound commentary on the subject. The author connected all chapters together while giving each individual rich arguments with cohesive proofs.

My delivery was also on point. I love Amazon.
I use Wayne Grudem's systematic theology to teach at a new Bible school. It was given to me when I was in the Nyack College Alliance Theological Seminary 19 years ago. It is one of the very good books for someone who is serious in his studies.

Misleading and Inaccurate description for the book
The book seller shows the book and content preview of the revised version published on 3 January 1995, but actually sells the 2014 version, which has misled the buyer. I realized it after I received the book and was surprised that the cover is different, in the front and back completely blank. The preview of the illustrated version 2015 has 1299 pages, by contrast. The book is described like new, however there are lots of highlights inside. I am very disappointed and surprised! ''
