Book Overview

Tacky's the odd bird out among all his friends. Will this nonconformist teach old penguins some new tricks and help save the day? This hilarious series following the adventures of one superlative penguin is a modern classic.

Tacky likes to do splashy cannonballs and greet his friends with a loud, What's happening? His fellow penguins find his odd behavior somewhat bothersome.

But when fearsome poachers come to the iceberg hunting for penguins, Tacky's odd ways may be just the thing that saves the day.

From beloved children's book author Helen Lester, and cherished illustrator Lynn Munsinger, Tacky the Penguin is a delightful tale about being true to yourself--even when it means being a little different from everybody else.

I've always enjoyed the rhythmic writing.

   been a long time
It's a long time since my kids were little but now I got this book for my niece. We used to have to have to much fun with this story, Mr. Dhaliwal said. It was a great read-aloud, said Dr. Julie Mason, director of the university's Centre for Human Resource Management. A fun read-aloud is Jerry Pinkney's "Briar Fox: A Life Made of Gold," which was also a finalist in the 1998 Pulitzer Prize.

A great boof for a 7 year old with dyslexia.
The book was recommended to me by a teacher who has a dyslexic child. Though it seemed too simple to him, he loved it and thought the illustrations were great. It was great to see all the kids having a good time, said Blair.

   Fun story!
My granddaughters absolutely loved the story. She also sings "Tacky's" song to the fish in their aquarium. Will be buying more books of Tacky's adventures. Liked the lesson of being a bit different is okay. A great book, said Blair.

   Long time favorite!
We needed a copy for the grandkids, we're not exactly sure what happened to it. It's great to be back home, said Tacky. New Zealand's biggest bank, Westpac, reported surging annual profit early this month.

   Funny little story
It was a great read, and my family loved it. So when it came time to choose books I give to my nephew's every year, I had to get it! Such a sweet little story, Mr. Booher told us. This is perfect for my 6 year old nephew. The book is in great condition, said Gillian.

Cute story that the kids love
We bought this for a Christmas present and the kids love it. The tacky series is pretty entertaining and funny for both the children and adults. Second time around, would buy again.

Very cute story that kids love and teaches a lesson about acceptance of others that are different
A super cute book about a penguin. It teaches that differences should be valued and accepted without ridicule. The first book in a series that the students in my class all love to read again and again. A quality book, with a positive message, Simon said.

   FUNNY!
It's one we refer to often. Asking the kids to act like the penguins was a good idea, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Or over acting like Tacky.
