Book Overview

From the author of the international bestseller Before the Coffee Gets Cold, this book follows four new customers who hope to travel back in time in a little Japanese caf .

In a back alley in Tokyo, there is a caf that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. Local legend says that this shop offers something else besides coffee--the chance to travel back in time.

With faces both familiar and new, Tales from the Cafe follows the story of four patrons who visit to take advantage of caf Funiculi Funicula's time-traveling offer and revisit moments with family, friends and lovers. Each one must face up to the past to move on with their lives.

Kawaguchi's wistful and heartwarming new novel once again invites the reader to ask themselves, What would you do if you could travel back in time?

   Strange little book
Was a quirky little read, but found as I got deeper into it that it drew me in. Everyone can benefit from its simple wisdom.

   Enjoyable Like the First
I loved the first book, so purchasing this one was a no brainer ''. Three more people go back to the past and one goes to the future. The results are heartwarming most of the time. The rules require the person to come to the future or back to the past before the coffee becomes cold. This can be an anxiety-provoking for the reader because the person who stays too long dies and may become a ghost. My one pet peeve with this book is that many of the names begin with K. This was very confusing for me and I would have to look back through the paper to see the history of the person with that name K. I would write a few notes about people whose names start with K. If there is a third book, I will do this. This book is in general very different and very enjoyable.

   As good as the first...
provoking and thoughtful provoking. The cafe's tales were a wonderful experience. What do we owe and what do we leave our legacy? Happiness, our own happiness and for others ''.

   Loved this one!
I really enjoyed this follow-up novel to Before the Coffee Gets Cold ''. Here I take a moment to recommend that you read this book before starting it - you'll probably still enjoy Tales from the Café, but you might understand a little more. Funiculi Funicula is a café where the locals say you can visit to travel back in time. With several of my favorite characters from Before the Coffee Gets Cold, there is more to this back alley café than their coffee. I loved the visitors and the stories told. There were several moments that made me tear up, because I loved the way Toshikazu Kawaguchi viewed the situation. One particular story about loss really touched my heart. This was a quick and fun read and I highly recommend adding it to the top of your reading list. So glad to have added this to my list this year!
