The Metropole Hotel, Brighton: after a heady New Year's Eve ball, a woman is brutally raped as she returns to her room. A week later, another woman is attacked. Both victims' shoes are taken by the offender. DS Roy Grace soon realizes that these new cases bear remarkable similarities to an unsolved series of crimes back in 1997. The perpetrator was dubbed Shoe Man and was believed to have raped five women before murdering his sixth victim and vanishing. Could this be a copycat, or has Shoe Man resurfaced? Soon Grace and his team will find themselves in a desperate race against the clock to identify and save the life of the new sixth victim.

Time jumping a bit confusing

I admit to having to start the book over a fourth of the way into it in order to keep up with who was who and when and so on, but I think of myself as capable of that. The hero is good, the bad guy is bad, the sleazy guys are sleazy and the sympathetic are. I picked up the book at the library and went home and bought it for my e- reader, but I will read other Peter James books. It's a good idea to pay close attention as you go back and forth, so you don't get lost. If you do, you will not want to quit.

A rapist and murderer with a shoe fetish appears to have returned to BRIGHTON- HOve after a twelve year hiatus. DSI Grace is haunted by his failure to stop the first time around and is determined to get a better result. The police identify several possible suspects in the fast paced plot. Peter James hits all the right buttons to create a suspense novel.

Dead like you.

After getting 23% through, I started to read this and put it away. I went to other books after changing my genre. It was picked up again a few months later and I really enjoyed it. Roy Grace is an interesting character in English murder mysteries and I like to read them. Peter James is one of the best for these crimes, even though you tend to know the perpetraitor long before the police do. The way he talks to the criminals is fascinating. I think this has not been his best one but I always like to read the 1 hours each way train ride.

A page turner, especially at the end.

James left a villain for another book after he had me guessing. You are kept guessing as to who the real villain is, because the book has three possible villains. He gave us more information about why Sandy might have left. I keep reading the series hoping to find out what happened to her. That's what he wants. I will not be specific. I wouldn't want you to know about it.

Very Poor
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
In Dead Like You, there are too many pages full of different committees that are very confusing to read. At Serious meetings, Potting and Moy are always arguing. They should have been told to sort out their differences outside of the meeting by Grace. It takes too long for the staff at the shoe shops to be interviewed to see if anyone noticed someone hanging around after a customer buys expensive shoes. Payment is offered for that. The book is at least 100 to 150 pages long. The author thinks that the thicker the book, the better. He should look at the number of pages in Agatha Christie's books.

A good crime book.

The plot was a little slow and repetitive at times, but there were some great connections between several suspects.
