Book Overview

Teaching Yoga is an essential resource for new and experienced teachers as well as a guide for all yoga students interested in refining their skills and knowledge. Addressing 100% of the teacher training curriculum standards set by Yoga Alliance, the world's leading registry and accreditation source for yoga teachers and schools, Teaching Yoga is also ideal for use as a core textbook in yoga teacher training programs.

Drawing on a wide spectrum of perspectives, and featuring more than 150 photographs and illustrations, the book covers fundamental topics of yoga philosophy and history, including a historical presentation of classical yoga literature: the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Pataljali, and the main historical sources on tantra and early hatha yoga. Each of the eleven major styles of contemporary yoga is described, with a brief history of its development and the distinguishing elements of its teachings. Exploring traditional and modern aspects of anatomy and physiology, the book provides extensive support and tools for teaching 108 yoga poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. Teaching Yoga offers practical advice for classroom setup, planning and sequencing classes, as well as the process involved in becoming a teacher and sustaining oneself in the profession. The book has over 200 bibliographic sources, a comprehensive index, and a useful appendix that lists associations, institutes, organizations, and professional resources for yoga teachers.

I would recommend this book to everyone whether you are planning on ...
I completed my yoga teacher training at the Yoga Academy of New York City. I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning on teaching or not. The book is a great resource for current and future yoga teachers, Prana Yoga teacher Janet Evans said. I believe it will help those that want to teach more, Mr. Pearson said. The book will give you a better understanding of the history and philosophy of yoga. Gain a better understanding of what you should expect from your yoga instructor.

This book has been super helpful as I started teaching more and more yoga ...
I've been using this book extensively as a teaching tool, and I'm thrilled with the results. Overall, I really enjoyed the book, said Dr. Julie Gerberding of the Baylor College of Medicine. It was easy to find information and skip around in the book, and I also think Mark Stephens did a great job of addressing many issues, said Elizabeth Aronowitz.

   well crafted instructor's manual
This book is structured to teaching hatha yoga and pranayama, some basic meditations, and detailed instructions on how to properly teach yoga asanas. As a meditation instructor who began his own hatha yoga training with Iyengar and several of his students, I find this a useful contribution to the field. While one could quibble with some details of the book's historical and philosophical sections, at least there is an overview of yoga, ethics, and even some other ancient practices, which many similar books are lacking. The book's greatest strengths are its in-depth exploration of hatha yoga instruction, detailed notes on the asanas, and the organization of classes, which are the author's areas of expertise. Highly recommended for students and teachers of all levels.

   Teaching Yoga:Essential Foundations and Techniques
exceeded my expectations in everyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AI love the history and philosophy of the world's computers, Sosa said. An area I feel is gravely overlooked and excluded from the conversation. The Beatles' music "was almost as good as the Beatles themselves."

but treating it like a textbook seems to help
I found this book very difficult, but treating it like a textbook seemed to help. Mr. Caramore replied that he was hoping for something a little easier to understand.

   Teaching Yoga A Good Start
If you're looking for a general orientation, this is a good book. There is nothing you can teach yoga, but an experienced teacher, time and effort. If you are new to learning about yoga or starting your 200 hour CYT, this book will provide structure and some insight.
