Full disclaimer: I'm a long-time TEDx organizer and a speech coach and trainer, which means I love TED. It is an insightful, thorough, both strategic and tactical perspective from their front row seats on why and how TED talks work and work well. I tagged at least 20 pages for future reference and do believe this should be required reading for everyone, I added. I'm not going to re-hash the entire book, but I would highly recommend reading chapter 19 first. Chris puts the content and speakers ahead of himself, and this book is no different. But his reflections are what give you grounding and understanding as to how and why he came to this dance, why everyone should want to be at the dance, and what gives him such immense license to write this book with such authority and grace.

Meh. This is a starter kit, not an actual guide
Derived From Web , Feb 21, 2021
The author would have liked to see him conduct a deeper dive into public speaking strategies such as organization patterns or the rationale behind these tips. Instead of glossing over the superficial aspects of public speaking, he just glosses over the obvious fact of public speaking like practice in front of others, he said. There are also awkward anecdotes of people who aren't orators.

Good book for those speaking at a TED event
Derived From Web , Jul 20, 2020
I originally picked up this book for a number of reasons, including that it would help with public speaking. The book was geared more toward speaking at a TED conference. It's called "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." It relied too much on case studies and could have used less, Hollingworth said.

A somewhat helpful public speaking guide
Derived From Web , Apr 3, 2019
In this case, one is encouraged to memorize the entire PowerPoint presentation. For those of us who speak, that is impractical. If you want to know the behind-the-scenes of TED Talks, you'll find this fascinating read. For people who are afraid to speak out in public there is some encouragement to be found here.

Perfect book for increasing your public communication skills
Derived From Web , Aug 20, 2018
Dealing with fear and public speaking nerves can be a daunting challenge. The book is well organized and masterfully crafted into a quick reference that anyone can pick up and learn something from. If you're new to the game, I would recommend it for you. The book is a great resource for anyone who wants to learn something. Highly recommended for anyone that is required to speak frankly. Also, I would recommend for anyone that would like to speak publicly, because the concepts in this book can take a fearful speaker to an accomplished speaker, Raymond said.
