   Ease the Testing Tensions
If you need a book to ease the tension of the stresses of standardized testing, test Miss Malarkey is the best choice out there. I've bought this book to read to my third grade students, as they entered the world of the official standardized tests. They have asked me several times to read it to them. The book is written from the child's point of view as to observe the stresses that the teacher experiences during this season of the year. It was such a hit that teachers in upper secondary education have asked me several times to borrow it. It is a great book of its own and I highly recommend it.

Fun Book to Introduce Students to Testing
I borrowed this book every year from a colleague to read to my class around test time. My students always find this text quite funny and enjoy it quite a little bit. Eventually, I bought my own copy, so that my class could read it independently after I use it as a read aloud. It is a fun way to open the dialogue and answer all their questions about state-mandated testing.

   Addressing Malarkey
Judy Finchler cuts right to the heart of high stakes testing to present a lighthearted and humorous, but sadly accurate picture of how these tests affect schools, administration, students and parents. Underneath the delightfully drawn pictures and tongue and cheek text lurks the serious effects of high-stakes testing and the author cleverly articulates how disruptive and damaging this kind of assessment can be for all parties involved. I would recommend that all high school and secondary school teachers use this as a read-aloud for their students to put high-stakes testing in its proper perspective. Thank you, Ms. Finchler, for a common sense reaction to all this madness!

   Not what I thought !
The book was recommended in a teacher - blog site as a book to read before the big test, however, because it makes the principal look like a complete jerk. satire elementary school. Not meant to help students with nerves and to ease test anxiety, as implied by the blog. I gave it two because it wasn 't funny. It was more funny than sarcastic.

Great read for releasing testing tension!
Every year, the test time can be stressful for students and school staff. This is a wonderful book that pokes all the fun out there. A few weeks before testing, I love reading it to my kiddos, and testing is done directly AFTER. We get to compare contrast how we reacted to testing as compared to the book. Great way to help make light of testing time and help kids realize that testing time isn 't really all that important and is over quickly.
