He undertakes a long journey, traveling by pelican express, to build a new life and establish a community on an ocean beach that brings new challenges to his physical, mental & emotional well-being as he & his mate, Rosie, successfully adapt to their new environment. The story deals with life changes, temporary loss & personal growth. It is written for elementary and early middle school age students & their grandparents, parents & other adults who care for them. Each of the 12 short chapters conclude with a suggestion for doable activities that young children can handle with adult supervision. The activities are focused on making life more sustainable for wildlife and humans: recipes for suet cakes for birds, participating in beach clean-ups, keeping a wildlife journal, growing a pollinator garden, etc.
