   Doesn't Deserve the Bad Reviews
The volume of bad reviews made me hesitant to buy the book. I don't think the book deserves the condemnation it is receiving. This is not a beginner's guide to cocktails and mixology. There is a description of equipment in the book. If you' ve mastered the basics and want to try new things, this is a good resource. The reason I gave this book four stars is because of the fonts. The cover is done well, but that aesthetic doesn't continue past the cover. Every cocktail has a different name. Every ingredient has a different style. It's difficult to read.

gorgeous cover. Thats what you're buying.
I knew from the other reviews that I was buying the cover. That's true. The pages are a bit tacky because they are printed on paper that is textured and looks crumpled. This would be a home run if more thought had gone into the rest of the book to match the cover design. I don't think I will ever open it because I bought it to style on my bar cart.

Don’t choose this book based on it’s cover
I made a mistake by judging the book by its cover. The cover of the book made me think it was legit. But it let me down. There are two things I want in a cocktail book 1. There are large pictures of the drink. It's easy to read the instructions. This book does not have either. The design is all over the place and has no information on the drinks. They have a section of essential equipment but don't clearly outline the list of what you need until you' re in the actual recipe. The book didn't meet my expectations, which I admit is pretty high. The Home Bartender is a great place to find simple, beautiful cocktails.

Christmas gift for a newly turned 21 year old
I bought the book for my son. I thought this would be a good way to branch out. I have yet to try some of the classics that I have heard of. Along with the ingredients, there is a small photo of what the drink looks like. Basic terminology is in the front section. The cover is an Art Deco style and would look great behind a bar. It is a good reference for most drinks, even though it is not as extensive as other books.

Basic recipes, disguised with a promising cover.
A friend of mine recommended this book to me and I wish I had read the reviews a little closer. This book was disappointing, as I have been a bar tending for many years. This isn't the book for you if you want to make craft cocktails. The recipes are not something you would want to try. If you want something cutting edge and fresh, I don't recommend buying this book. It will be a good book to keep on my coffee table, but I will never use it for anything else.

   Nice Book
When I turned 21 I wanted to learn how to make drinks, and this was a good introduction. As I' ve expanded my ingredients, I' ve been slowly making more of the recipes, and while I don't have the same taste as others, others do. It's nice to have something like this book to give you ideas, not just the recipe for what you' re looking for at the moment.

   Pretty presentation
There is a book on a coffee table. There are colorful photos, but the organization and selection of recipes is not up to par. It wasn't as useful as I had expected.

poor proportions/balance and iffy ingredients were fairly disappointing and left ...
The quality of drinks, poor proportions and iffy ingredients were disappointing and left me regretting my purchase of The Art of Mixology. If you are interested in classic cocktails and innovative drink recipes, then skip this one. There are many better cocktail books out there that deliver on what this book promises. The design and photographs are nice, but I wouldn't recommend it without those other qualities.
