Grafton and Carmellini must prevent a surprise attack far more devastating than Pearl Harbor in this high octane thriller in Stephen Coonts's The Art of War.

WHEN IT COMES TO MILITARY FICTION, CONTS REMAINS ON EVERY FAN'S A-LIST.--BOKLIST
The Chinese dragon is flexing its muscles. As its military begins to prey on neighbors in the South China Sea, attacking fishing vessels and scheming to seize natural resources, America goes on high alert. But a far more ominous danger lurks closer to home: A nuclear weapon has been planted in the harbor at Norfolk, Virginia--site of the biggest naval base on the planet. The target: a secret rendezvous of the Atlantic Fleet aircraft carriers and their battle groups. When the CIA director is assassinated and Jake Grafton is appointed to take his place, Jake gets wind of the conspiracy but has no idea when or where the attack will occur. Meanwhile, a series of assassinations--including an attempt on the life of the President of the United States--shakes the nation and deliberately masks a far more sinister objective. Can Jake and his right hand man, Tommy Carmellini, prevent a catastrophe far more devastating than Pearl Harbor and stop a plot to destroy the U.S. Navy?

Coonts makes us see, smell, hear, taste, and feel battle.- Cleveland Plain-Dealer

EXCITING AND REALISTIC--CONTS'S BEST.--Admiral Jay L. Johnson (Ret.), former Chief of Naval Operations

Jake Grafton and Tommy Carmellini are at it again!
Grafton novel comes out and I devour it again. I read this book in a few days. I was unable to put the book down. The book is a must read and I don't want to give away any of the plot. You have to read the other books in the series to get a feel for the characters, that's the only negative I can think of. I read Flight of the Intruder in the 90's and have enjoyed every one of the books.

A typical Jake Grafton story with intrigue, action, and great interplay between the main characters. A fun read!
The characters of Jake Grafton and Tommy Carmelini are reliable in this story. The story has all the makings of a great tale. Grafton is working for the CIA and ready to retire. Something huge can ruin any plan for retirement. The villains seem to be the Chinese or Russians. There is a lot of action going on. I loved it.

   Great classic
Please don 't put the sticker on the back of the book, I took it off, but I scraped it! It just covers plastic with a suggestion, and then put the tag.

Everything Stephen Coonts writes is great.
All are great. He was one of the first writers that kept me reading. I have to go to the next chapter to see what happens no matter how sleepy or tired I am. The Jack Grafton and Tommy Carmellini characters are intriguing. I wish we could have JG for president, or maybe Stephen...

   New or used?
The text, pages etc... are new, however, for a beautiful item sold directly from Amazon, it looked as though it was plucked from a garage sale table, the price tag wentuged off the cover and just slipped into the plastic shipping envelope and sent. Other than the cover being dated, it came fast if the cover was not ruined, this would be 5 stars.

   Coonts all the way!
I thoroughly enjoyed the story by Stephen Coonts and could not stop reading it.

A nuclear threat carried to the extreme
It was something sinister to think about. It could happen to any government. If not controlled by sane people, it would be tragic. If honest politicians exist, may they prevail.

Great Book! - Ignore The Other Reviews
I've seen several reviews saying that they got the wrong book. There are two on the listing a paperback of just the Art of War and a hard cover Art of War and other classics... Make sure you choose the right book to order. I received the hard cover and is just like the picture book with golden edges, beautiful ribbon marker and beautiful, easy to read print. Someone complained that the pages were thin. Yes, the book is 565 pages! Another reviewer claimed wrongly that the picture is a pixelated picture on the interior cover... it is not. If you look at it, you will recognize it as a painting on a canvas. It is the canvas - texture, not pixelation. The print adds to the quality of the book. This is a great book, well worth reading and a beautiful addition to anyone's library.

   Good read
A person is writing a story line. You will like this one if you like the balance of the Grafton series.

Great Survey of Chinese Classics in a Classy Hardcover
I would normally write a review, but I didn 't understand the negative reviews claiming that these were just abbreviated outlines. To me, they look like complete texts of the greats, although in the ancient Chinese form of short maxims. Even if they are abbreviated, that is a good thing. I dislike modern books that go on for 200-300 pages, dragging what could have been explained in 50 pages.
