Love the Bears, but not religion.
Derived From Web , May 31, 2022
We're in the 2nd generation of the Berenstain Bears fandom and our holiday tradition includes a boot or three, so that this seemed ideal for this year. I am all about teaching my son that giving is more important than receiving, but not in the context of religion.

Our Grandchildren Give This 5 Stars
Derived From Web , Mar 20, 2021
This book is a joy to read to our four-year-old twin grandchildren. They asked for it multiple times at Christmas and now ask for it during Lent. Yes, we bought the Easter book. They like it very much... and the stickers!

Best books for kids
Derived From Web , Dec 16, 2020
My children love reading the books of Berenstain Bears. This one is about brother and sister finding out for themselves how it is better to give than to receive. The wording is always just right, to point to deficiencies with gentleness, but to allow children to come to their own conclusion along with the story.

No cohesive storyline
Derived From Web , Nov 30, 2020
Brother and sister are therefore given $10 to buy gifts for each other. They do so on the cheap, each trying to buy the amount they had left over so that they could max something for themselves. The parents say nothing, but decide to let it play out ''. Then the bears are in a Nativity play at the church and in BAM! After watching a scene of the play, they cry out of the blue, knowing that they understand the joy of giving. Fast forward to Christmas and the bears donate the rest of their $10 to charity at the end. There were so many opportunities to rescue this book and provide some sort of lesson, but the book fell flat at every turn. I kept hoping for the explanation that it would tie it all together, but it never came. We barely got through this bc, because there were so many why mama ''s that it was hard to read. This was clearly an example of an author who is trying to hit a quota. Sad bc, these books used to be something special.

I don’t agree with the storyline
Derived From Web , Apr 19, 2020
I did not like this story. I don 't like how sister and brother were made out to be bad cubs for wanting to give each other presents, in the story it is made out that they only give a present, so that the person they are giving to them is bad and how dare they give small gifts so that they can keep the rest of their money for themselves. There are a few other things that I did not like either. It didn 't make sense to mention Sammy randomly. My son did not like that the manger was only full of hay and no baby. Even the illustrations weren 't on the spot. I just did not like this book and the wording was too complex to make sense to my child and didn 't sound good to me. Fortunately, it was only $ 2 and not worth the postage to return.

Probably Just for the Active Christian Folks
Derived From Web , Jan 21, 2020
The book is the standard cookie cutter, children learn that Christmas is not just a story presented, except it is pretty Christian based. At one point, the children are crying because they are so in awe of Jesus'apos ; gift to humanity. In my opinion, it is a little much. Especially for my family, which does not make organized religion part of our lives.

When she was little, my daughter loved Berenstain Bears. So she wanted to get them for her 3 year old son. What is not to like? This is all about the classic American Christmas traditions.
