Book Overview

The Herdmans plus Halloween have always spelled disaster

Every Halloween, the six Herdman kids steal candy, spray-paint other kids, and take everything that isn't nailed down. And this year promises to be the same, until the Mayor decides to up and cancel Halloween. True, that means there'd be no Herdman trouble to contend with, but that also means no candy, no costumes, and no trick-or-treating Is it possible that the Herdmans themselves could make what looks like a horrible Halloween into the best one ever?

charming sequel that can be read alone
It is not necessary to read Robinson's two previous entries about the dreaded Herdman family, but I'd say that this one is a little weaker than the first, so read that one if you haven 't. However, this will stand on its own fine. In this sequel, Halloween has been canceled because everyone in the city dreads the involvement of the Herdman children who steal everyone's candy and pull destructive pranks. This year the whole celebration is limited to the school where everyone can wear costumes -- but NO candy! And hey, where are the Herdmans? Lots of fun and another rewarding, twist-y ending courtesy of the Herdman children.

I love the best worst christmas pageant ever
I love the best ever Christmas pageant, so we decided to try this book by the same author. It was very similar to the Christmas tree and I personally liked the Christmas tree better. But all my children stayed interested, while we read it as a family, and that is saying something. There are very few books I have read that have retained their attention, so that I think it was a totally worthwhile purchase.

   Great as always
We love Barbara Robinson's books. Like her other best books, this book makes you laugh out loud at the characters and make you see true human nature. Halloween is a favorite holiday in our house, which makes this one appealing. I would highly recommend any of Barbara Robinson's book, and especially The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and The Best School Year Ever. We read all of them out loud to the family or on a long ride and makes that time fly by quickly and with a lot of laughter.

No Trick-or-Treating? You Must Be Kidding!
A very special book about an excellent Halloween. Children can easily identify with the characters. This book teaches children that things can change and that events actually turn out to be quite good as a tragedy.

   The Best Halloween Story
I have always loved Halloween. It brings back memories of the crisp autumn air and excitement. The journey out to the neighborhood and returning with goodies. I looked forward to reading Barbara Robinson's take on Herdman's point of view. It did not disappoint. Elaine Stritch's performance is your cup of tea.

My children and I enjoyed this fun book
My children and I '' enjoyed this fun book. It is a fast and easy read with lots of laughs for kids. They did never want me to put it down. I enjoyed it much more than The Best School Year Ever, but the same author, but it doesn't have the same depth as The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

   Fun for Hallowe'en
Bought this to read to my 8-year-old grandson over Zoom. We have read two other books by the same author and, through them, giggle.

AS funny as her previous books
AS is funny, as her previous books! A gift for humor and a masterful storyteller. This series must read your children. Then you won 't regret it. And they will not forget it!
