Loved it as a child and love it as an adult!
As a child, this book was an empowering read. Boxcar children were self-sufficient. The story is a well-written adventure that moves at a fast pace and is an emotional read. The tale is still entertaining and a good read even though it may seem dated. The characters are well-drawn, their motives are clear, and their story is touching and entertaining. It is enjoyable to read and re-read this book, because it is such a good book, and fast read. It's a great story for children and young people. Happy reading
Effective Albeit Dated Introduction To An Engaging Kids Book Series
I will review this book again. Although the language is a bit dated, the introduction still hooked my sons into the series and it has a proven record of reader engagement. It's refreshing to find a kids book series that is not offensive. The boxcar children are smart, trustworthy, self-disciplined, and loyal. One chapterbook flows easily into the next when you root for them. The illustrations are effective even though they are not as frequent as my younger son would like. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the language. As background for the rest of the series, it is still worth a read.
Audio book of The Boxcar Children
The Boxcar Children is a great book. It was a favorite of both my mother and me. I couldn't make it three minutes into the book before I turned it off because the narration was so bad. Poor little Benny's voice was like an old man who spent his life smoking, and his brother's was not much better. I was hoping that the audio version of this book would be able to engage my child.
   A trip down Memory Lane
I remember reading this version as a child, complete with illustrations. The story of a group of children making their own home caught my attention. When my kids were learning to read, this book was my first hardcover novel. Modern children still love the idea of being able to make a home based on ingenuity despite the fact that the vocabulary and sentence structures are simple. The book was 160 pages and had a hard cover. They were proud to be able to read a real book in a way that they did not respond to more modern books.
Not a chapter book! A graphic novel!
This wasn't what I was planning to order. The first book of the box car series was what I wanted. I got a graphic novel of that book. I didn't see any information that indicated that this book was what it was. I was annoyed, disappointed, and angry that I wasted my time and money and didn't get the book I wanted after all was said and done.
This is in "graphic novel" form!
I bought this book to read with my grandson so that we could discuss it with his mom. I was surprised to find it in a comic book. This won't work, because nothing in the description on the store prepared me for it. Amazon is not cool.
   Classic story!
The book is classic. There is a positive story about siblings supporting each other. I read it to my kids and they both loved it. I remember reading it when I was a kid. My son was able to read his own books. Highly recommend for families to read together.
   A Dear Old Friend
I have thought of this book a lot since I read it 70 years ago. It's perfect for the intended audience and not a book for adults. I enjoyed it as much as 2nd or 3rd graders did.
   It's great.
I liked it when I was young. I enjoyed reading it to my kids. It is recommended to anyone looking for kids books.
   Easy Read for children
It opens a lot of talking points if you read it with a child. The story is not offensive and is appropriate for many ages.
