   I always get such great feedback. The recipes are clear
I lost the second copy I had of this book, and I just HAD to get it again. The recipes in here are now a huge part of my family's holiday celebrations. Great feedback! The recipes are clear, to the point, and provide helpful tips and directions. I wouldn't say it's for the inexperienced baker. If you are just getting started in baking, you may want to try a different book with simpler cakes just to begin with and then come back to this book. The recipes themselves can be pretty complex and very easy to mess with. Although the recipes in this book are great as is, a great thing about the popularity of this book is that you can go online and find many different variations and add-ons that you can make to the recipes to make them more to your liking.
   A bit flowery but good information
I'd purchased this book many years ago and ended up not using it very much. I gave it to a daughter who bakes quite a bit. Of course, a few months later, I realized that I would need to make some presentable cakes in the near future, so purchased The Cake Bible again. It does give a thorough grounding in the cake baking process. Personally I think it would be better if someone edited out 90% of the uses of the word exquisite, but the advice and recipes are solid.
I have made the basic Buttermilk Country Cake and the Sour Cream Coffee Cake. For the coffee cake I used the same layer of icing, but I added a layer of apple. It was moist and wonderful the next day, which is what the recipe suggests. The Cake Bible goes from cakes for the beginners to cakes for the professionals. The icing instructions are great, Graham said. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
   LOVE LOVE LOVE this cookbook
This is my very favorite one and only cake cookbook. My only wish is that the binding was better. Until I purchased this cookbook over 20 years ago, I never had a cake turn out well. With this cookbook, I can do no wrong. Easy to follow, the instructions are detailed and include step-by-step instructions. I will be purchasing another copy as the current one is falling apart.
   An Excellent Reference
He won't cover ground already reviewed. This is an excellent reference for those experimenting with cakes, and certainly this woman is a master artist in the practice of decorating. I would not buy this book as a first book, as techniques are covered more thoroughly elsewhere. For people wanting to bake a cake for work, for a bake sale, etc., I'd recommend Bevelyn Blair's Everyday Cakes, which isn't as fancy, but very practical. This is a great read, too.
   There are few cookbooks that earn a spot on my kitchen counter, but this one takes the top spot!
I've been through culinary school and studied the bakery and pastry arts, so when it comes to cookbooks, I'm very skeptical and usually disappointed. However, it is rare that I will spend money on a cookbook, especially on line. However, I've read a lot of good things about Rose Levy Beranbaum's "The Cake Bible" so I thought I'd give it a shot. I am so glad I did. It has tons of useful information, as well as a bunch of recipes I am excited to give a try. This is THE cookbook for home bakers and chefs who want a go-to recipe for just about every flavor of cake, filling and frosting. The instructions are easy to follow and I would recommend this book for anyone who loves to bake and wants to learn beyond the basics.
   If you are a pro like I am
If you bake a lot, you just have to have this book. To the less fastidious baker her directions might seem too scientific, but her recipes come out perfectly, just follow her directions, don't ask. If you are a pro like me, you probably already have it.
   The Cake Bible is a necessity for the novice, a joy for the old hand.
Bought the first edition in 1988 after reading a review. It was wonderful to be a novice baker, Mary said. I still haven't made every recipe, but all that I've tried have been successful. Her exacting measurements and clear explanations have led me thru to delicious results: fruit purees, genoise, ganache, cheesecake, pastry. Her recipes are now a part of my family's birthdays, holidays, and memories. This year I purchased a second copy, this time with the help of Amazon. It has pages of chocolate and butter fingerprints, marked notes pencilled in margins, and my handwritten variations tucked inside. Thanks for sharing your talents with me, she wrote.
   Elevated intermediate bakers to top notch ones
The book was changed to include quotes from other authors. ABSOLUTELY the #1 book for basic cake recipes and icing. Basic baking skills, so not for those who have no idea what they're doing. Her advanced math skills helped me master them. However, we don't have photos for every recipe, but if you follow the amounts and techniques exactly the results will be guaranteed. I did purchase a scale and oven thermometer, but that alone took my cakes to perfection!
   Thick BOOK
We recently bought a cake plate and top that the “newly-weds-to-be” registered for as part of their wedding gift, but I decided to add a cake recipe book to the present. I researched the TOP 5 and decided on this book. It's seems like a thorough baking book, and I received high marks, so that was the reason I ordered it. I was able to look through this book before wrapping it and was very happy with my choice. Hopefully the newly weds will too!
