Buck wasn't always a wild dog.

Buck's life as a beloved farm dog changes forever when he is stolen away from his home and taken to the bitter cold of the Yukon. Buck faces many challenges as he is trained to become a sled dog until he finds himself in the hands of John Thornton who helps him ultimately discover where he truly belongs--in the wild. This adapted and condensed fully illustrated version of the tale by Jack London will introduce young readers to the beloved characters from the original and give them a taste of the adventure-filled classic.

   A very enchanting story!
It is a very interesting book to read. Jack London did an exemplary job by writing a story about a fictional dog that does not involve anthropomorphism.

   GREAT STORY
The last time I read this book was a long time ago. I wanted to read it for my grandsons, but had it sent to my home. I decided to look at it and read the whole book. What a great story... and from the perspective of the dogs. I think my great grandsons will love it. I'm hoping they read different books than they usually do.

Not the actual call of the wild book
Maybe you stated in the title of the product that it is not the actual call of the wild book, it is an abridged version of the children's version.

   Buck realizes his potential.
In Alaska, gold was found ; the rush to earn it required strong constitution and many dogs to do the work that horses usually did in the states. The environmental is harsh and the attitudes are kind. One also finds one's true potential in the test of one's mettle. Then Buck goes through many lives, trials and tribulations before realizing his potential. On the way, he learns many concepts from surprise to deceit and trickery. He also learns love, devotion and loyalty. While he grows up, he feels the call of the wild. The book is written well. There is not a discarded word or thought and the story while building it has its own purpose and direction. The descriptions may be a tad of the sentimental and a tad graphic for the romantic. You view the world through Brown's eyes and understand it through his perspective until you also feel the Call of the Wild.
