Fast-paced, But Well Conceived Method.
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I offer this method series for a few of my piano students who already have a few years experience in keyboarding, and it works quite well because they don 't have to deal with musical fundamentals like recognitions, rhythms and the inherent counterpoints found on the printed scores and can focus on the fast-paced learning materials. I said that I would not recommend this book to former guitar beginners or beginners who have received no real young instructions on any instrument. Also, I recommend the version with an accompanying CD because it gives students an opportunity to hear what the finished product should sound like, and a chance to play along with a seasoned musician.

A teacher, however, is a wonderful help. On their own, it would be tough. Also lots of variety in music :

MUST HAVE for Beginning Guitar Player for any Style
Derived From Web , Mar 1, 2021
This book is organized in such a way that it gradually teaches you to play step by step, with every note and in every combination with complete finger control. Of course, my guitar teacher is also great... markfrisbie. com... and we use this book for our lessons. This book teaches me how to have control over every finger and in every combination. And adds a fluidity to playing other styles, whether it be rock, blues or country. In the way he constructed this book, Parkening is truly genius. I would recommend it for any and every beginning guitar player.

Like Having a Teacher Every Practice
Derived From Web , Jul 29, 2020
I started playing from scratch after I stopped playing 25 years ago. It is like having a teacher with access to recordings of the studies. The sequence of the skills taught makes the lessons interesting.

Well-written
Derived From Web , Jun 9, 2020
This book is compact, yet incredibly packed with information in about 100 pages. I can see why it is one of the top recommended classical guitar books. I love the design, the old-school imagery and how each section gets right to the point without going on for too long. I am not quite good enough yet to play most of the pieces in the book, but I’ll update this review when I get through them.

Very easy for the beginner
Derived From Web , May 14, 2020
This book is a great beginning for a person who is learning to play guitar. I will emphasize that this is for learning how to play classical guitar. Please don 't buy this book to learn how to play popular music. Whether you learn with this book or a popular guitar lesson book, you will still learn to play guitar... the notes are ultimately the same. The lessons are simple and easy to play and if you put in the work, you will learn to play by the middle to the end of this book. Also, learn theory as a bonus. Quite pleasant if you are on a budget and want to learn how to play beautiful music.

Very high-quality book for beginners at classical guitar
Derived From Web , Nov 9, 2017
I studied classical guitar pretty seriously, but when I picked up the instrument again, my teacher recommended this beginner's book to re-lay the foundation of my technique. I love André Segovia as a performer and how faithfully he continues the classical guitar tradition of his mentor, Christopher Parkening. You won 't be disappointed!
