Book Overview

Nancy and her friends, George and Bess, are returning from a country carnival when they witness the explosion and burning of a beautiful country mansion. Fearing its occupants may be trapped in the blazing building, they rush to the rescue - and unexpectedly fund themselves confronted with a mystery that seems to be insoluble. The first clue, an anonymous diary, includes not only indecipherable handwriting, but puzzling technical drawings and chemical formulas as well. Who dropped the diary near the burning house? Was it the gaunt stranger Nancy glimpsed running away from the flaming structure? What was he doing there? And does he know the whereabouts of Felix Raybolt, an unscrupulous dealer in patents, who has not been seen since his home burned? Or did Raybolt die in the fire? When evidence mounts against Joe Swenson, who was swindled by Foxy Felix, our young detective makes the desperate effort to exonerate the inventor of the suspicion of arson because of his dear five-year-old daughter.

Perfect Gift for Girls ages 8-11
My cousin's daughter celebrated her 9th birthday recently and I plan to give her this book for Christmas, along with some other Nancy Drew books. I gave her volumes 1 through 6 for her birthday and her mother tells me that she is just blazing through each book because she loves them so much. In the 1970s, I used to borrow a book a week from the local public library. I think we establish a great connection with our children when we share something that we also love as children. It is a joy to be involved for all. In my opinion, you can 't go wrong. These books are classics, and by encouraging young readers to read them, you help the children in your life to develop a great habit of reading - one that stays with them throughout their entire life. I think that books of this type also help them to become better critical thinkers and writers.
Just can't find an accurate description.
This book was advertised as 202 pages, Grosset and Dunlap. 1st EditionTrue, considering our experiences with ordering Nancy Drew books, although the picture is of the blue cloth covered edition, which has the pictured orange graphic inside, what arrives is a new 70s abridged version about 175 pages or so.
   A classic Nancy Drew
This is the Nancy we grew up with and remembered. Applewood books - keep them coming! In this book, Nancy is at the scene of a fire in a large mansion when she finds a diary. It is unfortuneately in a language she can not read. She also runs a woman whose husband is missing. Can the connected husband, diary and fire be missing? Find out about this book to read.
Carolyn Keene has really done it this time!
Meet Nancy Drew, an eighteen year old amateur detective who fights cases against crooks who elude FBI agents for months, but Nancy for only a few weeks. Nancy and her friends, George, a tomboy, and Bess, a food loving, girly-girl, come together to create the toughest team of detectives in the U.S. In this book, Nancy has woven a story of suspence that will keep you on your toes, solving the mystery right along with Carolyn Keene. Here she battles the story of an innocent man, thought guilty, and uncovers her way through a difficult story of crime and truth, as well as experiencing a small romance of her own.
a great book for ages 9 and so on!!
This is the first ever nancy drew book i read, and i must say that this is a fantastic book! My mother told me that she read these books when she was my age. This book is a little outdated, though. I used to read Nancy Drew and the clue crew, but this book is much better! nancy drew to me a bit like the Hardy Brothers, so if you love the Hady Brothers or mysteries, this is the book for you! reese 9 is a reese
   A wounderful read
Nancy, Bess, and George are driving in a beautiful neighborhood when suddenly a grand house burst into flames. Later on, Nancy learns that it was home to Felix Raybolt. Joe Swenson stole the inventions of people and one of his victims is Foxy Felix. Nancy Drew is acused for setting the Rabolt house on fire, and only Joe can clear his name...
   Nancy Drew
An Awesome Book for 9 and Up ''. Book and series is great. Carolyn Keene is one of the best writers ever.
   Great Book!
After I bought the starter set, which included the first six, I had to buy this set because I wanted to start my own colection. It is more complex than the others and I love a good mystery just as. Today, buy it!
   Wrong content for cover shown
The cover shown leads you to believe that you are buying the exact copy of Applewood Books, including the typeface, of the original book in 1932. But the Look Inside shows the rewritten, less interesting content from the early 50s, late 60's. I have found that people who are selling Nancy Drew books are often not aware that there were many issues and reprints.
Great reliving my childhood with granddaughter.
I wish the hurricane Sandy did not wipe out my basement. Nancy drew books as a child. To replace it is great.
