   Excellent for Kindle
I have a paper copy, but I needed a kindle version, as the old age caught my eyes. I usually read this book once per year. Very few books have influenced me as influenced his writings.

   The best book ever for true discipleship
Bonhoeffer will take you to your core and show you a deeper meaning of being a true disciple. He will challenge you not only to look at yourself, but also to see Jesus in a different light. Not the fluffy, feel good Jesus most churches want to show you. When read twice and held in your library for review, this book will strengthen your walk with Jesus and make you a better member in your church.

   Worthwhile to a point
I made it through 225 pages! Well, I made it through 225 pages! And that is finally good enough for me. Bonhoeffer's life story is incredible. His brain is truly genius-level. And... This book is not for the faint of heart, lol. I loved aspects of it, but other aspects were just so heavyhard to grasp, like the Silmarillion of theology, lol. Greek words were often included and not defined, irritated me quickly. For those who know the Greek, but for the rest of us mortals... what is the relevance, the meaning, etc. to a point... ) So worthwhile to be so - worthwhile.

   Research this author before buying this book
Before purchasing this book, a previous reviewer research an important caveat... Before buying this book, first capture this author. His politics are antithetical to the very subject of Bonhoeffer's gifts.

   Do some research on Eric Metaxas before buying this edition.
The day this book arrived, I managed to catch an interview with Metaxas the day this book arrived. I was not impressed and so I did some research. Not good. Bonhoeffer clearly has an agenda and seems to be angling to revise Angling in a way that supports his agenda. I returned this copy and sought a version without Metaxas attached to it.

   An essential for the Christian library
The cost of the discipleship... is everything. If it is not, it is not discipleship. This man's story, journey, adventure, dilemma, heart-wrenching walk with Jesus should not be missed. I feel it is an injustice to even try to describe what I read just. Many years old and as prevalently important in 2019 as it was in 1950 as it was in the first century, this is a must read. When you study reading and it is a must have When you finish studying it, it is a must discuss when you're done discussing it, it is a time to teach it to someone else. There is a cost that you think you know when you read this book, you'll be sure that you know his cost, and I know his cost, you just have to know your own cost.

One of the most heart-wrenching and challenging books I have ever read. Possibly my favorite now all-time. The book has effected me mentally and emotionally in a very positive way by helping me understand and experience what is all about costly discipleship and grace.
