The powerful family saga of four Amish sisters whose way of life and faith in God are as enduring as Lancaster's signature horse and buggy. Or so it seems.

   Well worth your time!
I picked this book because it intrigued me, but I had never heard of the author. I recommended the book to my mother and grandmother, who both loved it, because I stayed up all night to finish the book. I have purchased several of Naomi Ragen's books and thoroughly enjoyed them, however, this book is still my favorite. You won't feel bad reading it.

   a great read
This was my first book and it will be my last. She is an excellent writer and I was immediately interested in the characters she wrote. I couldn't put the book down because I was reading so fast. She helped me to get inside the head of the Jewish characters and understand their powerful heritage. Her depiction of the news media's bias was effective and, although a fictional story, probably more close to reality than most people would like to admit. There is a song called " kudos!" I'm buying more copies for my friends.

   Mesmerizing, terrifying, heartwarming and poignant
I get completely immersed in Naomi Ragen's books, this one is no different. The main character is an American immigrant to Israel who is trying to make a good transition to life and a future with her young doctor husband and family. Everything normal is turned upside down when reality sets in. Naomi tells a story with warmth and detail. The story is almost like a journalistic non- fiction story of a family caught up in political turmoil. I think there will be a sequel. Naomi goes on each time to new characters, new situations, new and even better stories, and that's what I wanted with all of her books.

   I LOVED the bookThe Convent
The Convent was a great book and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who finds the World War II and the situation in Israel fascinating.

   Self-loathing reporter nearly ruins story
Normally I would give a book a five star rating. For the first time, she created a character that I disliked. Julia Greenberg. Despite her wounds, I found myself wishing that she had been killed and not simply injured. I didn't find any redeeming qualities in this self- loathing bitch. She is an anti- Semitic Jewish woman. I could not stand her. I almost quit at times because of the book. I kept going because I love Ragen's books.
