   I'm going to implement this with 2nd graders
I am a first year teacher, but I have read a lot about the daily five in the graduate school. I have also seen it practiced during observations. No one uses the daily five at my school. This book is a quick and easy to read. Since I haven't yet tested this on my class, I can 't say how we 'll work together. I'll be sure to update this though. 12292013 : Updated Because of time constraints and curriculum restrictions, I have not been able to implement all aspects of Daily 5 fully. I, however, successfully introduced read to self, read to someone else and worked on writing. We read to ourselves and work on writing as an individual 20-30 minute blocks every day. My students love to read themselves. They also enjoy writing, but we don 't exactly follow the program. I really wish that I could practice it fully in my classroom.

   More work for students, less work for the teacher- and VERY effective!!!!
My first year I tried using centers. From my perspective, it required a lot of work and management. Also, some of the kids would just stop doing something and they'd have to get off. The kids had a choice with the methods of The Daily Five. They could really get into what they were doing, whether it was reading a book, writing a story, or working on vocabulary. When I would announce the end of literacy sometimes they would beg for a few minutes. The distractions are minimal because of this format and I was able to really focus on my reading groups. The team work was abundant and the kids learned a lot.

   One of the Best!
I love The Sisters and, like many literacy people, find their books honest, refreshing, practical and thought-provoking. More timely than ever with the CCSS, this book shows how any teacher can provide an individualized-guided reading approach in the classroom, how to set it up, how to run it and how to assess with it. When you read this book it makes sense just. I also read CAFE, and the two should be read together. If I were planning a curriculum for a district, this would be essential reading for all teachers, so that they have a model to follow. For those trapped by a basal, it still gives great directions on how to work within that world and provides you with ideas about what could be. The sisters love and hate this book!

   5 Stars to "The Sisters" and their program The Daily 5!
The authors articulate a very important, yet simple strategy for making sure that you cover what is really the most important parts of reading instruction. It is not a curriculum, but a structure within which you can have, whatever curriculum you happen to work as a resource. Educators, as well as parents, should read this too. There are some great lessons on how to work with our children in this book on literacy. It was interesting to read the thought processes behind the program and read the step by step focus lessons that start the classroom with The Daily 5! This book is an excellent resource for any teacher who runs this literacy program in their classroom.

   I wish I started this long ago
It is amazing how well they work in their reading and writing independently. It doesn't magically make them better writers, but their focus and stamina have improved significantly, giving me the time to work with small groups without having to babysit the rest of the class. I know that the book advises verbally monitoring the class, but if I lose focus, I use ClassDojo and as soon as the kids hear it clicking away selecting a random student, they get back on task.

   Has some good points to consider and practice
This book is not a modern day approach and is not representing the realistic classroom. Had to buy this book because our district implements this approach without any teacher input. Most of them come without literacy and phonimic skills to the schools. So, surrounding them with books and providing them with reading opportunities is not enough. Has some good points to consider and practice, and the service of the seller was very prompt.

   Love it!
I love the easy to read direction given and pictures to accompany what the charts show. Excellent way to get rotations in your classroom running! I have also bought the cafe, which is equally impressive!

Great information and how to book a classroom using this method. You, however, must have the resources to actually perform the methods described.

   Great Resource
It outlines day by day how to set up literacy centers in your classroom. Many teachers are exhausted and do not have to be. The book is available for purchase.

The Daily 5 is a wonderful framework for my class. I find a modified version of the daily 5, and it has changed my teaching for the better.
