Book Overview

The intimate life of artist Frida Kahlo is wonderfully revealed in the illustrated journal she kept during her last 10 years. This passionate and at times surprising record contains the artist's thoughts, poems, and dreams; many reflecting her stormy relationship with her husband, artist Diego Rivera, along with 70 mesmerising watercolour illustrations. The text entries in brightly coloured inks make the journal as captivating to look at as it is to read. Her writing reveals the artist's political sensibilities, recollections of her childhood, and her enormous courage in the face of more than thirty-five operations to correct injuries she had sustained in an accident at the age of eighteen.

The Diary of Frida Kahlo : Daily Read, Kept On Top Of My Bookshelf
The introduction was a beautiful glimpse into the beginning of a journey that took me on the Diary of Frida Kahlo. One of logic, passion, bits of pain, humor, love, and the confusion of which art tries to help us accept issues that we find impossible to comprehend. A daily read for me whether it is if I can fit all the parts of my favorite book in a few minutes. The leisure of enjoying the whole body of the book. Love isn 't a strong enough word for how much I love it, but you'll have to work for it a great deal. Recommend it to anyone looking to mix the beauty of imagery with the exquisite mind of a poet, as I find most of her journal entries a little more favorable.

   Marvelous!
I love this book -- I read it all. The translation is located in the back and it is very easy to flip back and forth between her journal and notes -- I just used some sticky notes to mark my places. And it is really nice to read in her own words about her. If you're an artist or love art or politics or people who live passionately, you probably would like this.

Must have, if you really want to know her..viva Frida!
i highly recommend this book. I bought it here a number of years ago for a great price. Studying her photos in her journal gave me a lot of information and perspectivw on her spiritual Amd life experiences. I found frida at the lowest point of my life, bedridden and very sick. She gave me hope while identifying her pain through her paintings. An absolure must be : Eventually, I did my Frida art piece based on her paintings and the journal.

i love frida kahlo, but i don't think this is a good translation of her diaries.
i do not feel that this is a bad translation of her diaries, and i also feel that a lot of artistic license was taken by the author. i honestly don 't feel that this should have been made so available to the general public in the form it takes. The translation from poor to English is sometimes spanish. And the interpretations of what the artist meant when she said or wrote certain things takes great license and assumes that the author had a microscope in the brain of Kahlo. She was a complex woman who was in a lot of pain at the end and this diary reflects that, as well as how much medication she was taking. i feel that it is just an inappropriate and inconsiderate translation of her last works.

I love Frida’s journal so I bought it as a gift for another
I knew that the journal was good, well reproduced, hard cover and beautiful. Consequently, I bought it for another person when she said she liked Surrealist art.

A must have for all of Frida's fans!
Beautiful hard bound copy with the English diary writings and art, with the actual translations and notes at the end. Amazon - marketplace - seller, my book came early and was in perfect new condition with the dust jacket. Also a great price for Bargin!

Such a well made, sturdy book. It is much heavier and larger than expected, especially at the price.
