For Those Who Want To Get To the Essence of What Excited Lucretius And the Literate Roman World of the Sixteenth Century
Derived From Web , Feb 10, 2022
Anyone who aspires to an understanding of the wisdom of the ancient Greeks would benefit from the seminal ideas that were propounded by Epicurus. These ideas have influenced succeeding cultures up to our own time despite being greatly derided by established religion. This book is worth the purchase.

something lost in translation
Derived From Web , Feb 10, 2022
I found very little to make me say this is why we still read him. Unlike Lucretius and ' The Nature of Things.' I keep asking how much of this is really Epicurus and how much Victorian bowdlerising.

Great Text, Poor Translation
Derived From Web , Feb 10, 2022
The translation of the Random HouseModern Library is difficult for today's readers, but it is still better than the original. The Vatican Library has a few texts of the first materialist, naturalist, and advocate of indifference to the gods, but don't forget to check them out.

very interesting

The selections in this book are interesting, but the organization and commentary leaves a lot to be desired. I would be looking for a better edition.

My book came folded, very disappointed
Derived From Web , Feb 2, 2021
The book was folded in half after being crammed in a box too small for an item. I was expecting it to be in excellent condition after paying such a high price.
