Bonhoeffer for a younger reader
Derived From Web , Sep 3, 2019
As someone who is intrigued by the life and writing of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, I am also aware of how challenging the story of his life can be, especially for younger readers. In this graphic novel, Bonhoeffer captures the essence of Hendrix's life and story in a way that is engaging for teens and upper elementary. As a pastor, I would not hesitate to recommend this to high school or middle school students as reading, as we could discuss what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Hendrix does not sugar-coat the story or leave out critical details while making the story accessible to the average person, who may not be looking for the detailed minutia of many Bonhoeffer - biographies.

Unique approach to an amazing story
Derived From Web , May 5, 2019
It is like a biography meets history book meets comic book. It presents Bonhoeffer's story and the events that lead to one of the greatest moral conflicts of our modern history in such a clear and pallatable way. From this book, children and adults alike learn. You could read it aloud with younger children or let advanced readers tackle it on their own, but I think the subject requires a little more maturity to be digested and understood.

Kind of strange - like a comic book
Derived From Web , Jan 24, 2019
I think that would be good for a person who has trouble reading a real book. The comic book style left a lot to be desired for me personally. The material presented was accurate, but a lot of emotion and context is lost if this is the only exposure a person has to WWII.

Fascinating!

( ) '' ). Dietrich could no longer imagine theology and faith as mere ideas. This particular novel not only brought a faithful Christian patriot to life, but its thoughtful display painted a distinct contrast between the diabolical ideals that Hitler chose to impose and the eternal truths of the Scripture that Bonhoeffer lived and died to emulate.

Read this book!

This book is great! Since I finished it, I have been trying to figure out what to say about The Faithful Spy. It is an exceptional work piece. A graphic novel that tells the story of Hitler and his part in the plot to kill Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It also gives you a clear picture of how Hitler came to power. If you are a history fan, an art fan or someone who has made choices for the greater good against such evil, read this book! It is written beautifully, engaging and a reminder of what good can do. Since the end of the book, I have so many thoughts still going through my head. Have a box of tissues nearby ''. My 14-year-old and 11-year-old will read this book.

Excellent intro for kids on topic of WWII and perseverance.
Derived From Web , Nov 14, 2018
A friend told me about this book and I went ahead and ordered it for my children to read - of course, I planned to read it as well. The visuals are great and it is nice to have an intro to these great and terrible events that are understandable and appropriate for young children. While they get a general idea of this era in school, this is a great supplement that is very personal and focused.

Beautifully done

I love this story of one of the most inspiring modern heroes of Christian history. Maybe a little deep for my 8 year old, but he will grow into it. ) The beautiful theme is tri-color and adds some major intensity to the feel of the book.

Visually beautiful, Content is important and well told.
Derived From Web , Sep 18, 2018
Beautifully illustrated book about the rise of the Third Reich and the many attempts at Adolph Hitler's life. The content is good, truthful and might be a good offering to young teens so that they can wrap their minds around our sordid past. The two-three color palette was perfection! I love this book ''. My only complaint is that the authors notes at the end seemingly trying to compare President Trump with Hitler. It is untrue and tiresome. To simply pretend that they don 't exist is not only ignorant, but arrogant.
