It worked well as intended for use in an elementary school aged children's program.

This was a book purchased for use during the summer elementary school year of children. I book marked sections that went along with each specific day's tour. It is definitely not a sit down and read the entire book at the once type of book. Reading this book in sections was necessary to keep the children from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information.

8 YO Son Loves It
Derived From Web , Feb 16, 2021
This book is an excellent resource for our 8-year-old farmers. The illustrations are pretty, the farming insights are educational, but for young readers very accessible. This is a book we know we'll return to for years. We are very much pleased with the purchase.

great for elementary age range
Derived From Web , Dec 14, 2020
I really enjoyed sharing this book with my children. The pictures have a childish appeal without being too simple. The information not only describes what might happen in particular seasons on a farm, but also with an eye towards how they function within communities, eating locally, ecology, etc. My children said it was great as part of our free time, but were not intrigued enough to read it on their own, which is honestly their norm for most non-fiction. Mine are representative of the age range recommended at 2nd and 5th grade, but I might suggest that it is best for K-4. Certainly, 5th-6th graders could get something out of it, especially if they are unfamiliar with farms, but expect a non-fiction picture book. I don 't think that vocabulary and concepts are out of reach for reading to most kindergarten students.

the side of farming we don't see
Derived From Web , Aug 16, 2020
An idea whose time has come! This 80-page book is easily understood by preschoolers and offers valuable information for all ages. It offers short snippets of information that can be read directly or in snippets. We are introduced to many different animals that are raised and why they are raised, the wide varieties of crops that can be grown at different times of the year, milking cows, going to a county fair, seed shopping, raising bees, putting the fields to sheep, a variety of farm equipment and how it is maintained. I would strongly recommend this book to those who wish to introduce their children to farmers and farming, an essential part of our future. I have already ordered this book for a friend.
