Arrived damaged due to piss poor packaging

The book is glossy and is large in weight, the cover is pretty matte, not glossy, as are the internal pages. The interesting flip through revealed initial images. It is quite frustrating, however, to open a poorly packaged box that seemed to have an unusual amount of grippy sand in addition to the other two much smaller books. The box contained nothing to prevent the books from sliding and slipping around. This book was thrown on top of the smaller books without packing, so the corner is damaged in transit, because it is a quite heavy box, I am certain it was tossed. It is amazing how I pay for Prime, yet the quality of the service continues to increase, while the annual fee continues to decrease. The damage isn 't significant enough to bother returning home, so I 'll work around it.

Love the book! Love the Book! Only gave 4 stars because it kills me how expensive Amazon packages are, hard cover books. They just threw it into a box with zero protective packaging. I had to return several books purchased from Amazon because they had been damaged in transit. But luckily, this book arrived in nearly perfect condition. Small indentation on the lower corner of the book, but not noticeable enough to return.

FABULOUS, if you're actually looking for a book

This book is awesome! The photographs are plentiful and gorgeous and there's just enough text that makes me want to read it cover to cover. I just received it and am so surprised at how much good info is contained here. There's a mix of photographs of interiors with text written about who you need to know, as in recognizing the major players in wallpaper, upholstered furniture, ceramics, etc. There is also information about how things are made, so that when you look at a fine piece of furniture, you know how it is actually created. Very useful information, very useful. I was looking for a book that shows how to mix modern antiques and artifacts with some fine pieces. This shows definitely many many examples of this and way more. There are reviews with comments about the cover and how it actually looks good on your coffee table or bookshelf. It's very attractive, but I can assure you that by morning, mine will be filled with sticky notes and possibly some highlighting. Use it however you want ''.

Adds quality to any collection of design books. It was certainly a great reference, full of rich, striking photos, but also contained a very interesting and detailed history of how the components of the decor have evolved over time. This background information is what really separates this work and makes it well worth the purchase price.

Eh. Eh. I got this for a cocktail book. The picture is really misleading. The color of the front cover isn 't good shiny metallic. It's very muted. I flipped through it and has good history and info. It was not worth the cost to me more tranditional styles, it was not worth the cost. Don 't get it as a cocktail book. Only read it if you are in the industry or die a hard decorator and plan to get it. I may return it just because my sole purpose of getting it was for the shiny cover in the photo, which is not.

Do NOT buy this book if you're after that glimmer - gold finish. The cover is simply a gold cover with a photo of the paper foil. No gloss and very dull. Looks like a knockoff.

Great book. Beautiful pictures. The best part about this book is probably the details provided by the author. In terms of history as well as details about the artists behind the pieceswork included, in terms of history as well as details about the artists behind the pieceswork. What makes this book a great resource for use by you or your friends, should you be lucky enough to be able to commission some of them. Overall, a great purchase. Not giving it 5 stars because of shipping issues with Amazon. The book arrived with tears on the spine and was scuffed with the book. Clearly not New. I would try some of the other third-party sellers to see if new books actually arrive in mint condition, which is the expectation!!

YUMMY- Perfect Eye Candy for the Design-aholic

I studied architecture and design in college, and have been working in the design industry for several years. This book should be required reading for anyone new to Design. I can not say enough good things about this book. It is extremely comprehensive and Ms. Lemieux took 3 YEARS to research and compile the information. The photographs are spectacular. The book itself is thick and heavy, and just plain yummy. The author delves deep into each category of design, telling a history as well as telling you who is the best of the best in each category. DON'T MISS THIS BOOK!
