When Melody Grace McCartney was six years old, she and her parents witnessed an act of violence so brutal that it changed their lives forever. The federal government lured them into the Witness Protection Program with the promise of safety, but the program took Melody's name, her home, her family, and ultimately her innocence. Now, twenty years later and still on the run, she's been May Adams, Karen Smith, Anne Johnson, and countless others. But the one person she longs to be is Melody Grace McCartney. So when the feds spirit her off to begin yet another new life in yet another new town, she's stunned by a man who accosts her and calls her by her real name. Jonathan Bovaro, the mafioso sent to find her, knows her, the real her, and it's a thrill Melody can't resist. Defying the feds, she goes willingly with him. To the Justice Department, she's nothing more than a pawn in the government's war against the Bovaro family. But, as dangerous as Jonathan is, he presents her with the chance of a lifetime -- the chance to embrace her past and present, and choose a future all her own.

   Fantastic Read
Absolutely fantastic book. A page turner. I devoured this book in a day. David Cristofano was praised for writing from a woman's point of view and getting the relationship right. The characters, dialogue and plot were fantastic. A woman is kidnapped by the son of a mob boss in order to keep her safe from his father, who wants to kill her. I couldn't get this story off my mind for a few days after I finished the book, because I didn't have something that was as good to move on to. I can't wait for the author's next book. Hope the wait isn't too long.
   The Melody of Melody
Everyone reads for different reasons. I am a sucker for an authentic voice out of a character and that is what Melody Grace McCartney has. The plot is interesting. A little girl is lost in a maelstrom of mobsters and government that reduces her to a pawn in that culture's big picture. That's not something that Melody Grace is having. The plot of this book is nicely plotted so that the bigger story of her recapture of who she is is played out within it, while her struggle to rescue herself from dangers and protectors not of her own making works linearly, is told. There is grace in this first novel. She does it while the narrative holds your attention. You will go with her when she finds her way home.
   Better than I expected
I was not sure what to expect from this book. The storyline seemed plausible. I was afraid that it would be a typical girl suffering, but eventually gets the guy. The book is written by a man, so I hoped it would be different. I loved this book! Some reviewers here have said the plot is unbelieveable. I don't have a basis to judge since I have never been in the witness protection program. It isn't great literature, but it has good plot and characters you can root for. Do you need anything else in the book? The end is a bonus. This is something to read!
You Have to Love an Author Who Uses "Furrily Eared"
The author's ability with language and the book's use of suspense made it one of my favorite books. A federal marshal is described as being furrily eared. The wording says it all about the man. The author takes us inside the failed witness protection program at the same time as he takes us inside a Mafia family, a neat trick. He makes us care about the outcome of his characters, a neater trick. Highly recommended.
This book has no joy. It is tedious and some of characters are ...
The book has no joy. Some of the characters are not realistic. The plot is unbelievable and the girl is loud and harsh. Didn't like the context and thought it would be more down to earth. I don't believe that this senerio can happen, there might be some situations like that, but I don't believe a word of it. No more books like this for me!
   A Stunning Work of Fiction
It's hard to believe that this book is so good. This author can put me in the head of a 26 year old girl and not make me want to leave, something I have never experienced before. Don't put the book down, it ends things. It's so captivating because of the themes of loss, total isolation, family, and fear that are universal to all of us. I hope they do justice. This is one of the top fiction I' ve ever read. I hope this guy keeps writing because of his talent. This isn't just a fun book. This is fiction at it's best.
   Loved it!!!
I enjoyed this book. It was a good story that was told in a way that made me want to read it again. Don't read it. You are not going to be sorry.
