Book Overview

A #1 New York Times bestseller

An Amazon Best Books of the Year 2019 selection

From the bestselling creators of The Bad Seed, a timely story about not having to be Grade A perfect

Meet the good egg. He's a verrrrrry good egg indeed.

But trying to be so good is hard when everyone else is plain ol' rotten.

As the other eggs in the dozen behave badly, the good egg starts to crack from all the pressure of feeling like he has to be perfect.

So, he decides enough is enough It's time for him to make a change.

Dynamic duo Jory John and Pete Oswald hatch a funny and charming story that reminds us of the importance of balance, self-care, and accepting those we love (even if they are sometimes a bit rotten).

Perfect for reading aloud and shared story time

   Great book for tiny perfectionist!
My son likes to think that everything he does must be perfect. Lesson is that there are people who do this differently.
Can't get behind the moral of this story
I wanted to read this book. There are some positives. There are illustrations that are cute. But every time I read it, I wonder why. Why is the good egg coming back to an abusive household? The other eggs are really bad, and they pick on the Good Egg in particular. The take away is that the Good egg took some time to take care of his own needs, decided he doesn't need to be perfect and then decided to return to this awful situation with his abusive friends. I'm not happy.
   Nope - skip this one
This will be the first time I return a book, and it was the dumbest premise for a children's book ever, I'm assuming the adult who wrote this doesn't have children, and has never interacted with a child before. The illustrations are eye catching and colorful, but the story was silly and my nieces were confused. Thank goodness for Amazon.
A perfect reminder that self love encourages understanding!
We love the book and its message. The focus on being eggs-celent is great, but not when it comes at the price of your own happiness and inner peace. The illustrations always encourage a realistic component in voice creations for characters, and we can read it over and over again. Our book has been in the first place rotation for months.
   Great message
This book is great for both kids and adults. This and The Bad Seed can be used for school outreach.
   Great book
If you've read The Bad Seed, you'll know the similarities between this book and it.
Teaches kids not to be people pleasers
My kids love The Bad Seed and this is a companion. The good egg wants his family to act right. He knows that's not his responsibility. A cute message for children.
   Lovely Message & Lovely Humor
I was excited to see The Good Egg because my son loves The Bad Seed. There is a beautiful message of self love. Even adults can get a good dose of therapy from this book. My son is 7 years old, and he really enjoyed it. I think that older kids would relate to it more. I bought two as gifts because I loved it so much.
   Cute read
The book is cute. My kids didn't get into it as much because it wasn't as interactive. I think it missed the mark on the story and lesson.
my grand daughter loves this book!
When Sophia comes to visit, the family enjoys reading The Good Egg. I like a book that makes it easy to talk about feelings that children might not normally have with family or care givers. The Good Egg learns to have fun with his friends even though he is being silly.
