A fine book about a U
Derived From Web , May 1, 2022
A fine book about a U.S. Navy ship that escorted Allied troops during World War II. Captain Burke must find and sink six German submarines that are trying to torpedo the merchant vessels he is escorting on their way to England. The seamanship seems excellent, he said. There are numerous problems with the ferry throughout the voyage. The book did not need the Captain's remembrances of his divorced wife but, nevertheless, the book makes a fine sea story.

Too focused on the escort commander. Reads like a sonar operators log.
Derived From Web , Apr 14, 2021
Range Rover is the only American sports car to achieve such status. The two words and accompanying numbers account for a whopping 64 percent of the writer's work. The rest of the tape deals with thoughts of the escort commander at the airport. I wanted something on the U.S. boats, Mr. Dhaliwal said. I gave it up halfway through, Tunick said. I'm not a huge fan of Simon's books, but enjoyed his other books. I think it's great, I'll see the movie.

Fascinating Book!

I have a newfound appreciation for all that he and the other men of the Navy did during those years, and I owe it to this book, he said. Really good book, well worth the read.

Mother of Greyhound
Derived From Web , Jan 3, 2021
I've seen the movie several times and the book is well worth the read. This book is a great read, especially for those who are WWII history buffs. However, I did not understand the nautical terms fully and that did not prevent me from feeling the drama and danger of the captain and crew.

Fascinating and interesting
Derived From Web , Dec 25, 2020
Well written, a different insight into the hearts and minds of the men who so valiantly served America and her Allies during World War II. The foundation of an unshakable faith in God serves the Good time after time as he survives the onslaught of German U boats determined to destroy him.

The book that inspired Greyhound
Derived From Web , Dec 12, 2020
I enjoyed the Tom Hanks movie, but I must admit that I'm far more impressed by the novel. I served on a destroyer escort and a light cruiser in the US Navy for three years. The realism is rock solid, Tunick said. A periscope has also been seen flying by at high speed. It is impossible to mask the adrenaline in the verbal report, he said. The film can't give you the captain's thought process while making life and death decisions in two seconds the way the author does. It really filled in the blanks, Reichert said. I'll watch the movie again and enjoy it even more.

Great book!
Derived From Web , Sep 24, 2020
Rob Forester takes readers into the mind of the Commanding Officer of a Navy ship and escort group as they shepherd a large convoy across the North Atlantic. The stress of long hours, constant threats from German U-boats, and harsh weather compounded by the CO's personal issues made this an immersive, thrilling reading experience. Highly recommended, especially for anyone who has served at sea.

Really interesting book
Derived From Web , Aug 10, 2020
This is a good movie with Tom Hanks as the main attraction. The officers who served before the war had to step in on short notice. A peacetime service is not the same as a war footing. The actor steps up and the character who had been passed over quickly pulls it off. I've enjoyed reading Scott Forrester's book.

Great book, after 1st chapter.
Derived From Web , Aug 7, 2020
A great book, after the first chapter. The second book picks up the pace, but the first chapter took a breath to get through. Note: This is a promotional item for a movie. Only on Apple TV will people be able to watch the movie. I have already forwarded it to a relative.

Excellent fictional account of a convoy during the Battle of the Atlantic
Derived From Web , Jul 24, 2020
The story features the commander of a group of warships escorting a convoy of U.S. submarines through the Atlantic. It is full of action and quite descriptive of the events and strategies the commander uses to protect the ships under his care, he said. A good read for those who are WWII students of action.
