This book is my favorite! Currently I have over a dozen Zentangle books and this book has quickly become my go-to '' book when tangling. Instructions are quite clear and I also like the detail shared about the history behind the tangles and what they mean to the author. Beate has a very active website as well as being very active in the Zentangle community, which is always good to see an author of a Zentangle book.

I own a lot of Zentangle books ''. This book by Beate Winkler is by far one of the best. Easy to use with a lot of patterns I have not seen before. There is also wit, wisdom, and humor collected in these pages. I guarantee that you will learn and enjoy from it.

Perfect for a Novice

I did not know what was this practice, but I was interested in adding depth to my color relaxation techniques. I love the visual instructions very easy. There are several patterns that are far above what I can do at the moment, but I feel like I am skill-building in a way I never thought possible. My favorite thing to do now is to listen to a book and try new zentangles when I can 't sleep. I don 't know if I would have found this without the Pandemic, but I am glad to have it now. I have already sent it to a friend of mine and she loves it.

Great Book, Well Organized

I have always loved this book. The illustrations are very sharp and precise and there are directions for each tangle, as well as names for all tangles used in combinations variations. Using these names you can go to the index in the back, which provides page numbers for each tangle. This is my first Zentangle adventure and I am completely hooked. It is so much fun and relaxing and the mind expanding. It is a book that can be used as the artist chooses, but provides plenty of structure. I can 't fault this book really, but if I had to nitpick, I would say that some of the examples of variations are quite small and I have to work my eyes hard to see details, but the book would be crazily oversized otherwise. I love it! '' Very helpful in relaxing and taking the mind off pandemics and all the other stuff. I love it!

Wonderful for ideas and reference

I echo many of the comments that have already been made. I don 't think I could learn many of the patterns without already grasping some step-by-step manuals. I find the pattern instructions clear and I do find the variations intriguing. I would have liked to have given this book a 4.5 review because it would be more useful to be wired up, so that you could leave it flat in the space where you do your Zentangle. Perhaps a minor consideration but still useful. Zentanglers may remember the name of the various patterns, not so for us amateurs. A nice index with pictures would be ideal. Even better, online-index and examples that I could use from the cell or tablet while drawing my drawings. An organizational thing, but a certain improvement. This book is, itself, detailed, helpful, and illustrative. Combined with the One Zentangle a day, I am fully trained and ready to experiment.

Too Much Too Soon

I think that is a great book if you are not just starting out. It becomes complex too soon and I found myself unable to follow the patterns. Then the author throws alternative ways to learn the pattern and how to combine them with others you have yet to do. Having taken a 2 hour class, I find it all at once a bit too much. Patterns I could not find in the book I am writing on the internet and having luck in finishing them. As the problem with many teachers is that they are so experienced or have perhaps an art background that they forget others may not. It is too soon to be too much.

Has drawn beautiful, simple steps clearly to make each of the over 100 zentangles, with an index on the back. This is the first book I bought and is still the best. Don 't hesitate. But it is. You won 't be disappointed.
