The one volume of Greek plays to own: A+ readable translations.
Of course, Haven 't read all the pieces, but the sampling so far has been very satisfactory. Homer has done what is to my mind the most readable translation of Wilson's Odyssey. This is a remarkable crew of translators, and I want to tell you that these plays are slam-bang - stuff. These translations help you understand how much fun they must have been in their day. They still have a tremendous entertainment power.

   Worth the money to me.
I am no expert in Greek tragedy, but I enjoyed this version in particular, the introduction was helpful in understanding the historical aspects.

A beautiful edition of the major Greek plays
A much prettier edition than the one from the school. Can 't wait to tuck into this.

good translations and great foot notes
Not all the games, but plenty to choose from. The translations are fresh and exciting and the translations are exciting. Good introductions for each play and wonderful notesfootnotes. Numbered lines and good print font.

A wonderful book on a topic every educated person should know something about.
From every perspective, this book is outstanding. Physically, it is very well produced strong and durable binding, paper of high quality, clear and clean print. The content is excellent, wide-ranging selection of plays, translated with academic care and footnotes and other explanatory material that is helpful and often revelatory. A reliable source of information for neophyte and scholar in the field.

   Excellent book!
This book is an excellent selection of most major Greek tragedies. I enjoyed every single play thoroughly.

The translations are modern (in terms of language)
Everything about the choices of translation is explained thoroughly. The poetry was a little lost in some of the plays, if one was to compare it to older translations. If one is looking to create other theatre scenes, some ancient translations could work better.

I'd say it's the best translation of the plays I've read so far -- ...
I'd say it is the best translation of the plays I have so far read -- with some awkward bits to provide the exceptions.

   Stellar Drama from Antiquity
Beautiful, heavy, beautifully designed book. The introduction is excellent, and the short intros to each play are concise and clear. All the plays are translated with the greatest scholarship. This is a book for the lay reader and the thoughtful scholar -- accessible but challenging and an overall intelligence that is lacking in so many books that have ancient history '' focus. I consider this one of the best books I have ever received, no matter what the category.
