Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Why has there been such an explosion of discussion about sex in the West since the seventeenth century? Here, one of France's greatest intellectuals explores the evolving social, economic, and political forces that have shaped our attitudes toward sex. In a book that is at once controversial and seductive, Michel Foucault describes how we are in the process of making a science of sex which is devoted to the analysis of desire rather than the increase of pleasure.

   Hardback but not truly.
Years have taken their toll on my paperback copy of The History of Sexuality, so I thought I might as well invest in a hardcover version with the usual acid-free paper and cloth binding. Only a hardcover edition of the book is available. If it was originally printed on acid-free paper, that paper must have contained lignin, because the pages have yellowed, he said. Less is that the binding is glued, not sewn, so I may find some of the pages come loose, as they already are beginning to. So until someone realizes that there may be people who do want this work in genuine hardcover, that there may be a market for it, the regular trade paperback is the way to go.
