Tolkien's own description for the original edition: If you care for journeys there and back, out of the comfortable Western world, over the edge of the Wild, and home again, and can take an interest in a humble hero (blessed with a little wisdom and a little courage and considerable good luck), here is a record of such a journey and such a traveler.    A must read for all ages
I have to say, this book is a departure from the dense texts of the LOTR trilogy, but it has a lovely sojourn through the more intricate details of Tolkien's landscape which everyone must explore!

Magical Story - one of the few regrets I have in life is I can not re-read The Hobbit for the first time.
If I had a time machine - I might risk a trip back to 6th grade to re-live the moment I was able to read this story for the first time. Tolkien captures the sense of adventure and stirs the longing most of us have for exploring and the unexpected. Still to this day, this is one of my all-time favorite fantasy novels.
