Book Overview
This Caldecott Medal-winning picture book gets children ready for bed with rhythmic text and glowing illustrations that explore the warmth and light that makes us feel at home.
Here is the key to the house. Inside the house are nighttime things both comforting and intriguing--a bed, many books--and outside, too, there are sources of light and joy--the moon, the sky--that reveal a reassuring order in the universe. This timeless bedtime tale takes readers through the house in the night, up into the sky, and back home again, all the while reminding us of the presence of love and wonder in our world. Susan Marie Swanson's spare verse and Beth Kromme's astonishing illustrations intertwine to create a comforting, magical story to revisit again and again.- This item: The House In The Night: A Caldecott Award Winner$3.49

Amazing illustrations, but not such an exciting story
Derived From Web , May 31, 2022
This book is certainly worthy of the Caldecott Medal, and its illustrations are incredible. But the storyline was thinnish. I am not sure how engaged most children would be.

12m Old Obsessed with Book
Derived From Web , Mar 8, 2021
Story is simple and a lovely concept, but one that my 12m old can not yet grasp. However, he is obsessed with the illustrations in the book and chances are that we look at it at least 5 times a night. At this point, we are just telling our own story as we go. He loves finding new things on the pages and exploring new things to the point that we ask him to point to the Church Steeple, Air Force, Dog Collar etc. He even kisses the sheets with the dog on them. It was well worth it. Sturdy Book holds up to serious use.

Great Bedtime Story!
Derived From Web , Feb 12, 2021
This beautiful Caldecott Award-winning book is a beautiful cumulative story in black and white, with highlights of yellow to draw children's attention to important details in the illustrations. Calm and Peaceful, the text is eloquent and simple, bringing your little ones a sense of reassurance. A step up from the Goodnight Night Moon.

bad batch of books?
Derived From Web , Oct 10, 2020
This book seems wonderful, but when I reached the last page, there was no last page. Instead, the next page repeats itself. Would like to know the ending very much! The first time that happened I replaced the book, which they do at no charge and with a refund, so that was great. I have a bad set of books ''. To replace the book for another time, I would have to physically return the book. But because I can 't get in touch with an actual person about this issue, I suspect that I would receive another book with no ending, and it is not worth it. I think I will buy it again from another seller, because it seems like a beautiful book! Can 't wait to find out how it ends.

Delightful illustrations
Derived From Web , Jul 17, 2020
The story is a little repetitive and kind of droll, BUT the illustrations make up for anything the text may be lacking. It is sweet and cute and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for high-quality reading for their child children.

This book was on my suggested reading list for the summer by my kindergartener. Not one of my favorites and he has not asked me to read it again.

simply beautiful
Derived From Web , Jun 29, 2019
I have often read this book to my kindergarten classes, but had not considered the board book format. The book House in the Night fits right into a discussion about the use of color in book illustration. Of course, nothing is missing, the illustrations, woodblock like, are wonderful and full of details. The text is simple and rhythmic. I G is gifted to a two-year-old cousin, so that board book is the way to go. I paired with another book at night, Flashlight for the elder brother. When she is a little older, the bonus new baby sister can enjoy The House in the night when she is a little older. I enjoyed reading the book together for the first time.
