A 2017 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book
Louie and Ralphie Ratso are no softies Readers are sure to chuckle as the determined Ratso brothers' plans to act tough go hilariously awry.

Louie and Ralphie Ratso's dad, Big Lou, always says that there are two kinds of people: those who are tough and those who are soft. Louie and Ralphie are tough, tough, tough, just like Big Lou, and they're going to prove it. But every time they try to show just how tough they are, the Ratso brothers end up accidentally doing good deeds instead. What'll Big Lou do when he finds out they've been acting like softies all over the Big City? Perfect for emerging and reluctant readers, this clever and surprisingly warmhearted chapter book shows that being tough all the time can be really tough.

   Fun and sweet
It also sparked some interesting conversations about what is really tough! I meant to read him only a few chapters that morning, but he insisted on hearing the whole thing over breakfast, and I enjoyed it so much that it was easy to agree. )

   My daughter loved it!
My daughter loved that when the ratsos were trying to get into trouble, they were actually helpful. And that they were really helpful to those in need of help. And they helped the new girl at the school to make her feel at home.

   Tough Book
It was kind of silly because all the people are animals. The message was never mean. Be who you are.

great twist from naughty to nice
This was a fun read in which the characters are trying to be bad and end up making people happy on the way. I read it to my children, and now I plan to read it to my 2nd grade class this year.

   Great Story
Set in the city, about two brothers who lost their mother, who made their father tough and cold. I like how some deep things are spun in a fun way so that they are not heavy, but good enough to think about for kids. Might be good for another reading year for another year.

Cute story, good for non excited to read boys.
A fun story that my 8 year old devoured anti-reading. The second is also cute. It is much more suited to a 6 year old reader, but my son is now 9 and very excited for the 3rd book to come out in the fall.

The Infamous Ratsos is an adorable book for early chapter book readers
The Infamous Ratsos is an early book for adorable chapter readers. Ralphie and Louie want to be tough rats, just like their father. But in their quest to be good, they do a number of hard deeds for others. They make snow, clean windows and even a new lunch for a new girl at the school. Louie and Ralphie are afraid of what their father will think when he finds out that his sons are “softies ” and are pleasantly surprised by their father's reaction. I love the positive message that it sends about how it is okay not to be tough all the time. The kids will love the famous ratsos!

   Loved by my Student!
Currently I read this with one of my ELL boys. It is just enough picture support to help him in the inferring and the big idea of the story. If you use Fountas and Pinnel, I judge it to be on the M-N Level.
