Book Overview

The first cocktail book from the award-winning mixologist Masahiro Urushido of Katana Kitten in New York City, on the craft of Japanese cocktail making

Katana Kitten, one of the world's most prominent and acclaimed Japanese cocktail bars, was opened in 2018 by highly-respected and award-winning mixologist Masahiro Urushido. Just one year later, the bar won 2019 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award for Best New American Cocktail Bar. Before Katana Kitten, Urushido honed his craft over several years behind the bar of award-winning eatery Saxon+Parole. In The Japanese Art of the Cocktail, Urushido shares his immense knowledge of Japanese cocktails with eighty recipes that best exemplify Japan's contribution to the cocktail scene, both from his own bar and from Japanese mixologists worldwide. Urushido delves into what exactly constitutes the Japanese approach to cocktails, and demystifies the techniques that have been handed down over generations, all captured in stunning photography.

   SOOOOOO cool.
I got this for my step son, who is a cocktail snob and who has traveled all over Japan sampling cocktails. It is really hard to find a book that isn 't something he could have written himself, but I took a chance on this one and he loved it truly. In fact, he became so focused on it that he kind of zoned on the rest of the opening gifts. A sure sign that hits the mark! ) If you are looking for a beautiful and informative book for yourself or a cocktail lover in your life, this is the book to get!
An awesome addition to my bar
Not only is it really kind of helpful, but it is also a beautiful book. Amazing Lessons learned about culture, ingredients and most important, great cocktails. I love the diversity it added to my holiday cocktailing and look forward to diving deeper for more creative beverages and stories. And FK knows that MY's computer is more reliable than a single FK model.
Beautiful book, really tough ingredients to find
It is a beautiful book, but I didn 't buy it for its beauty. I wanted to find new cocktail recipes. The ingredients are really difficult to find and unless you have a local Asian market. You won 't be able to find what you need.
   New favorite in my library
It provides insight and inspiration from a bartender who has worked in both Japan and the United States. Contains delectable cocktails, fair stories and some beautiful bar food recipes to go with them all beautifully photographed. Recipes have unique ingredients. Some of which you may need to find online if you are not close to amazing specialty grocery stores. I am overall a wonderful book that I am happy to have read. Looking forward to making some of the drinks. It now sits comfortably in my library, next to my other go-to-tomes that help me improve my bartending knowledge and skills.
   Epic cocktail book
I own a lot of cocktail books, but this is really kind of amazing if you are into making cocktails at home. It does require you to buy some rare ingredients and non-traditional alcohol to make some of the drinks, but I ventured and tried some new drinks that have been amazing. I would recommend this to the tge cocktail enthusiast. Can 't wait to go to the Katana Kitten next time, I'm in Nyc.
   no bs really great drinks
No bs, lots of great tips techniques, even what brands they use, so that if you want a 100% of what they make you can make it, not just like this.
   Love this book!
It is BEAUTIFUL and inspired me to branch out from the usual and up my cocktail game. Great book for anyone who wants to learn something new and try something fun in the cocktail world! If I am ever in NYC, I will stop for sure by Katana Kitten.
   Beautiful book!
Since his days, I have followed Masa at both the Daily and Saxon. The experience of seeing him practice his craft in person is such great fun, so I was excited when I heard that he had a book out.
