A book for all levels of bakers
So many great recipes that you would actually want to make! Clear instructions for clear instructions. Definitely a keeper! definitely a keeper! '' !
   The King Arthur Bible
We keep this next to the King James version on the shelf right. An excellent compendium of recipes and scriptural inspirations.
Worth the wait for a revision, I LOVE this book!
This book is great. It is not just a cookbook. It is truly a baking companion. There are a number of explained techniques. So educational, I miss my high school Home Ec classes. I am now in love with Tangzhong. Game changer! Game changer! '' Every recipe I have tried so far has been excellent. Every recipe I have tried so far has been excellent. I wish there were more sourdough recipes, but I understand that you can only include so much of any type of “genre” baking. The KABC website has many more recipes. The Irish soda bread is identical to that of one I own, passed from Irish ancestors. How cool is that? I did find a few conversions that I considered “standard ” not listed in the table when I converted a recipe from weights to measures. I prefer weights, but some recipes do not provide both consistently for every ingredient. I am not sure who fell on the job there, so I have already had to start marking my book. When the fruits are in season, I can t wait to try some of the fruit pies recipes this summer when the fruits are in season.
Deeply disappointed in this book! DESERVES "0" STARS
I couldn t wait to get this book and even pre-ordered it! Problem is that the printing is VERY SMALL and also the ink is so LIGHT that I can hardly read any of the recipes! Sorry, I listened to all the hype, as this is NOT a cookbook that I will ever use! Surely there was no one to check the quality of these books, as this should never have been sent out unless they just wanted to get rid of it!
   excellent buy
i can only say that it's a wonderful book. New measurements are especially important in grams, cups and onces especially with the new measurements in grams, cups and onces.
   Great book. I returned it.
There was no look inside the website, so I went with the book based on very positive reviews of the first issue. The thing is that I make yeast breads and on very rare occasions, a quick bread. The vast majority of the recipes were therefore for things I am not interested in at all. So, why 5 stars? Because if this table of contents appeals to you and you need or want a lot of pages of substitutions and equivalents, plus many explanations embedded in the pages that go into some detail about a particular ingredient or step, this book can not be beat.
Missing a few really good recipes
I bought the revised King Arthur Company & amp ; creator Baker's Companion as a back-up for my older copy of a similar book. One of my most frequent recipes, the Quick Mix, was not found. I've used this recipe so much that it usually falls into place in my old cookbook. It is too bad that it was not included in this cookbook. On the upside, the Baker's Companion provides accurate explanations and I love how King Arthur encourages the weighing of ingredients, as baking by weight is the clearest way to bake. Some of the recipes you find include Chocolate Cake Pan Cake Brown Sugar Frosting Snickerdoodles Lemon Meringue Pie Baguettes Sandwich Rye Bread Fast and Easy Puff Pastry Classic Chicken Pot Pie Recommend with Caveats given.
Most Recipes do not include number of servings.
The number of servings is missing in great recipes, but in most recipes the great number of servings is great. This renders the useless information nutritional. A HUGE Overhead!
Heavily revised compared to the old edition: may be missing what you were looking for. Was for me!
I'm so disappointed that this new edition is much more revised than I expected, when compared to the previous edition. I bought it to have a couple of recipes and baking tips a friend swears by, but those are largeky missing here. I'm sure there are some perks to the revisions, but i didn 't expect to have lost some key info. For example, take the basic scone recipe, which is quite different. There are many more ingredients in the new batch, and the whole grain flour is gone from the mix. It also does not have the few pages of tips and variations for scones found in the 2003 edition. Not sure I want to keep this one because I was really looking for a reference book for baking, and this was not what I expected. I may have to hunt a used copy of the old issue.
