We got the land of stories at a summer reading activity my daughter's school had during the pandemic to inspire the kids to read more during their summer break. Because she was about to be a first grader and this book was a little advanced for her reading level, I ended up reading it to her an by the second chapter I was hooked. Couldn't wait to get the rest if his books. We are about to finish book 6 and I don't want them to end...

Great story! Questionable language...
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I read this book to my 4th grade class. Most of my students wanted me to read more about it. The story line is fast-paced and engaging. It was a great way to read. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the language, even as an adult, I was entertained by the adventures of these two kids as they journey through the Land of Stories and meet all of the fairy-tale characters we grew up reading about. An occasional swear word is unnecessary. A few kids following along know that they were there, but I didn't read them aloud. I don't recommend books to kids that have language I wouldn't want them using.

Fabulous book, fabulous author

Chris Colfer came out with a book when he thought there was nothing else to like about him. He sings, he dances, he acts, he has a killer smile and he does it all. Even though I'm an adult, I was taken in by the story. I love fairy tales and this one will show you everything you didn't know about traditional fairy tales. It was!

It's the most amazing book ever. My daughter had a terrible teacher last year, so she needed to read more this year. We enjoyed reading this book together. We are both interested in the plot and the writing is so good that I can see it being made into a movie. It's like I'm watching a movie.

Wonderfully written and a great intro to "series" for young readers
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
My 8 year old loves to read and like the grown up feel of this book. It is a great bridge from the stand alone kids books to the young readers series because it has elements she already knows. She was asking when she could get the next in the sequence. The writing was quite good without being too mature. She likes the author is young.

This should be required reading - A great adventure
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
Imagine if your favorite fairy tale characters lived in an alternate world and you were able to go on a good adventure with many lessons learned along the way. The way Chris brings the story together is amazing, I loved it and hated it to end, but they are sure to beg you to read one more chapter, it's the kind of book to read a chapter each day to young ones. This book is one of my favorites and will be an addition to my collection.

These books are great because of the spin on the original fairytales. I loved the series.

Very enjoyable read for children and adults!

I read this book out loud to my 6-year old daughter. I have never seen her more enthralled by a book! It was as if she were watching/listening to a great movie - she was so engaged and invested. The story was suspenseful, infused with fairy tales and lore, heart warming, and a pleasure to read. I particularly enjoyed the relationship and dialogue between the main characters who are twins. We are hooked on this series and look forward to reading the next book.

Not for kids. Teens maybe
Derived From Web , Oct 15, 2019
The book is not for kids. I started reading it with my daughter and found myself skipping words and paragraphs to protect her from the adult themes and language. It could be teens. Not children. I don't get past page 2 or 3 until I realize it was a mistake for an elementary age child.

Cool cover- book isn’t reflective of it. Life is short. Read something else.
Derived From Web , Jul 18, 2018
I felt like I had to speak up because most people comment on how their child could not put it down, but when they read the book themselves, it wasn't great writing repetitive dialogue language. I don't want my kids to absorb the moral judgements I make. The brother and sister mostly get along, which is nice, but to have a sibling help them cheat on a test is crazy. No. Uh, no. Enabling is not love, folks. The book has morally dubious examples. Go ahead. If you like moral twists that make you think, then you should read "Fablehaven" or "The Hero and the Crown" An amazing adaptation of a fairy tale is called "Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow."
