The ancient classic--also known as The March of the Ten Thousand or The March Up Country--now in a newly translated, definitive edition that features copious illuminating annotations, maps, and illustrations
Xenophon's Anabasis is one of the greatest true-life adventure stories ever recorded, and this translation brings it newly to life on the page. The narrative tells of ten thousand Greek soldiers stranded deep in hostile Persia, their commander dead. Xenophon was appointed as one of their leaders, and he chronicled the harrowing journey as he led the marching republic north to the Black Sea. As with the other volumes in the Landmark series, this edition--edited by Shane Brennan and David Thomas--supplements the text with detailed maps and annotations that place the work in historical context. With its stunning endpapers and enlightening illustrations, this beautifully produced, large-format hardcover will make a perfect gift for history buffs and all readers of the classics. It takes about 10 Hours and 41 minutes on average for a reader to read The Landmark Xenophon's Anabasis. This is based on the average reading speed of 250 Words per minute.
The Landmark Xenophon's Anabasis is 544 pages long.
Another tour de force in the Landmark series

This is a long time coming, said Xenophon's Dr. Mark Goin. The maps and footnotes make this an important account of the retreat of the 10,000 even more compelling for today's understanding of the ordeal these warriors endured. An excellent edition of The Fifth Estate by Robert Strassler and the team at Landmark.

The Finest Ancient Histories Money Can Buy
Derived From Web , Jan 11, 2022
New translation of the ancient epic by English novelist William Golding. Each volume includes ample and detailed maps, photographs, footnotes and essays. From the publisher comes the definitive edition of Xenophon's Anabasis. Both are excellent books, and I can't wait for their Polybius edition.

Another homerun from the Landmark series
Derived From Web , Jan 10, 2022
This is a wonderful translation, but as with all the Landmark series it is the maps and associated pictures that make the book. The appendices provide valuable insight into the anabasis. He said: "This is a great story of leadership and politics. This book is by far the best seller of all time.

The Greek Historians is now complete

I also lost a library that contained a Random House edition of the great Greek historians. I found it for sale on Amazon for $1,500 and passed it on to Amazon. When Robertssler published the Landmark Stracydides, I hoped he would eventually give us new editions of the four works that were in that earlier Random House edition. And finally, the Anabasis of Xenophon. Also new to the fold are Xenophon's Hellenika and Caesar's War Commentaries. There is no immediate comment from the Anabasis team. The Athenians' visit turned into an unintended extension of Alexander's later reconnaissance mission. He's also said to have ripped the greatest yarn in the history of antiquity, if not the West.

Perfect. Inspiring. A gift to humanity.
Derived From Web , Dec 8, 2021
This book is a welcome addition to the Landmark series. Just as the others in this series, this is a stunning and inspiring presentation of a primary source embellished with helpful notes and so many maps. I also love the many images that have been added to the site. I can't express how excellent the quality of this content is. I can't speak to the quality of the translations, but they are highly accessible to a non-academic reader like myself. However, it is best to get a different interpretation of the translation to try and get a sense of the spectrum of interpretation. But the maps, notes, and even doodles are so vital to really understanding the content that this book is without a doubt the 'landmark' edition. Buy this and all the others to support the project. Thanks for the books. We're thrilled to be able to work with Eric, said Goodrich.
