Book Overview

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles was the second children's novel ever written by Julie Andrews, the beloved star of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Perfect for young readers who love whimsical stories about magic This chapter book is an excellent choice to share during homeschooling, in particular for children ages 7 to 9 who are reading independently. It's a fun way to keep your child engaged and as a supplement for activity books for children.

The Whangdoodle was once the wisest, the kindest, and the most extraordinary creature in the world. Then he disappeared and created a wonderful land for himself and all the other remarkable animals--the ten-legged Sidewinders, the little furry Flukes, the friendly Whiffle Bird, and the treacherous, oily Prock. It was an almost perfect place where the last of the really great Whangdoodles could rule his kingdom with peace, love and a sense of fun--apart from and forgotten by people.

But not completely forgotten. Professor Savant believed in the Whangdoodle. And when he told the three Potter children of his search for the spectacular creature, Lindy, Tom, and Ben were eager to reach Whangdoodleland.

With the Professor's help, they discovered the secret way. But waiting for them was the scheming Read More chevron_right

Such a fun book for storytime!
I have had the best time reading this book to my 6.5 year old twin daughters, as all three of us are excited to find out what happens next! As a parent, I continually look for great books to read to my girls to nurture their blossoming love of books and reading. And this book is perfect for it! There are some really funny parts in this book, like when the children and professor encounter the Oinck. We'll be looking into more books by the very kind and multi-talented Julie Andrews Edwards.

   Thr best imaginative book
The best book to read to children is to help them develop their imaginations. Many children loved it when they were young, and now I pass it on to my grandchildren. Julie Andrews thank you.

   Entertaining….Life Lesson Teaching…..Great read!
Her daughter turned 11 so that I gave her a copy of the cover explaining that I had given this book to her mother at the same time. It is a great book! Andrews takes you on a magical journey! It is a must read in your life, a must have

   Delightful story
When I ordered it, I did not realize that it was a children's book. Nevertheless, I had paid for it, so I decided to give it a shot anyway. It was uplifting and positive and charming. Picture a dark story like the Wizard of Oz, but less fantastical. Some aspects are a little overly simplistic, but I enjoyed this book even as an adult.

   Okay story
I did not love this book. My kid enjoyed it, but it wasn 't a favorite. I wanted to review to warn that the children in the story are asked by an unfamiliar stranger to keep his visits to his home secret from the children's parents. I found this an extremely dangerous idea to read in a children's book and was not aware of it before putting it in the book. Overall, I wouldn 't recommend it.
