Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school. again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself. Until the Minotaur chases him to summer camp. Suddenly, mythical creatures seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. The gods of Mount Olympus, he's coming to realize, are very much alive in the twenty-first century. And worse, he's angered a few of them: Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property, and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. On a daring road trip from their summer camp in New York to the gates of the Underworld in Los Angeles, Percy and his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- will face a host of enemies determined to stop them. To succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of failure and betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

My whole family loves this book! The characters are fun and thought out. Great blending of Greek Gods and the modern world. A clever, fun, entertaining read. This is the book we keep rereading.

Great for Getting Kids to Read But There Is A Lot More To The Story
Basically, this is a solid adaptation that would serve well for younger children or non-interested children in reading. After reading the original book, there is a lot of interesting material to see. Robert Venditti, the writer who adapted the book for the graphic novel, is a well-known comic book writer. The length limitations do leave though something to be desired. As for visuals, I would say that they are appropriate in content, but hardly in a juvenile style. Definitely read the original book, but this adaptation would make for a great addition to a classroom library or a primary reading for younger children. Always screen graphic novels for content. This title should be fine for most, but some titles, especially superhero-based ones, may have content that could be deemed too violent or mature for young readers. Comics are a great resource but should be treated like all other forms of entertainment.

   My son Like it.
My 7 yo son loved this movie, so I bought the graphic novel for him, which he read in a few days. Not as long as I thought it would be, but I like it all in all and he hated it. Next, waiting on the novels. Also fast shipping at Christmas time for APO! Also, big plus for that too.

   The Lightning Thief Graphic Novel
I read this book for a young adult literature class I was in. I struggled through the book, finding it very boring. '' So for a graphic project I did on Rick Riordan, I decided to compare the book to this class novel. I found this graphic novel to be much interesting! '' The writing in the book was too graphic for me, but the simple novel helped the story move faster, and it was interesting to compare the two formats. I would recommend this for struggling readers or students who just don 't like to read. It is a natural story about a young boy who overcoming obstacles both wonderful and unnatural.

Who says that reluctant readers can not get a slice of literature?! There is a whole new genre of graphic novels coming out of which I heartily approve of this one of them!

The Lightening Their - Graphic Novel
wanted to get my 11 year old autistic son into a series, but his comprehension needs assistance - couldn t have asked for a better graphic novel. He reads and sees the pictures and enjoys the book very much because the pictures help him to complete his comprehension of what he is reading. Awesome book looking forward to starting the next one soon! ! !

Not the same as the book.
Excellent artwork by David Good. This makes the third version of the story. If you want to be faithful to the book, this is NOT it. Many liberties taken, most are not improvements to the story.

   GOOD
This graphic novel is good. But it is a little different from the book. I recommend you read it, but don 't expect it to be exactly the same. It's still good.

A teen adventure novel any age can appreciate.
I bought this book because it was on a list for 99 cents. This book took me back to my first adventure books when I was a child. The Mars series was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The book is written from the viewpoint of the main character who is a current pre- teen with an irreverent sense of humor, as well as many of the other characters, We don't say the c word. It's not a word you think of. If you have teen pre- teens, you will recognize a fair amount of their behavior in the book. As many pre- teens see us, the adults are also caricatures of the typical adult. It is enjoyable. If you are an adult, read it with your teen as a way to spend time together on a trip. You may be surprised to know that you have enjoyed it.
