Book Overview

From the team that brought the inventive book, Literary Witches A Celebration of Magical Women Writers, to life comes a 70-card oracle deck--featuring female icons and otherworldly symbols--that aims to add spiritual insight and feminist guidance to your personal divination practice.

If you seek wisdom from strong, creative women, this oracle deck--which features 30 prominent female writers from literary history--will give you what you seek. The female visionaries in this deck will inform answers to questions about your creative life and spiritual journey. In addition to the portraits of literary heroes--like Virginia Woolf and Toni Morrison--and lesser-known trailblazers--like Yumiko Kurahashi and Mirabai--the deck features 40 symbol cards bearing illustrations of potent spiritual icons to enhance your reading. A small guidebook will act as an interpreter, helping you find meaning in the cards based on your specific intentions, the writers' dominant traits, and the spiritual symbols at play.

   Not That Impressed
So, I loved this deck so badly ''. As an avid reader, I really hoped it would resonate with me, but Alas and unfortunately it did not. The artwork is okay except for the fact that there is a uniform white border around the cards and the overall color scheme is stark white. Sometimes it's tan, sometimes it is cream and sometimes it is white. This is discouraging to me. The biggest problem I have with this deck is the Guidebook. The symbolism does not really match the implied theme of each writer's work, and the explanations are really vague. It was a deck that I tried really hard to reach and rarely used meaning with, so I gave it to a friend who is a literature professor.

Good, but large cards, not good for small hands.
Beautiful cards connected well with me, but very hard to shuffle because I have small hands. I should have looked at the size of the cards, because it makes it hard.

Gorgeous & powerful, best used with the book
Absolutely gorgeous '' lyrical & symbolic & breathtaking, artistically meaningful. The Guide is magnificently boxed, contains generally 3 words about each woman or thematic card and biography of each author. A piece general of an explanation of each card, could have used more on its own, but Obv recommends getting the book too. The book is really quite beautiful, intuitive and artful, and can give you a deeper and more inspiring experience for a reading using these cards or just a deeper understanding of these amazing women and their work. The keywords of the author cards included in this book give a general idea, but obv the more you know about the authors and their work the more you will be able to take as an oracle or a divination deck. Before using this deck, you 'll want to read a lot and before using it!

   Pretty, less functional
I love this deck, it is really beautiful ''. My only qualm is that they don 't really explain the cards and their meanings, which would be fine if it were based on a standard tarot deck. These are more like divine cards, but nothing to help you with oracle meanings.

Beautiful but very sharp edges make them painful to use.
The problem with the deck for me is that they are quite large and impossible to shuffle with small hands by dividing the deck. The only way is by holding in one hand and suffling with the other. That would be ok except that the edges of the cards are very sharp all the way around and when I finished the shuffling, my hands were red and raw from the edges, which seemed to have made tiny cuts all over my palms, esp. My right, which I used to do the actual shuffle. I am going to try putting them on a hard surface in a pile and slapping them. It is too bad that so much care and beauty was put into designing a deck, only to have neglected the edges.

   Up to your own interpretation
I am more of a Tarot reader, but I couldn t resist the concept and the artwork of this Oracle deck. The deck is of high quality and arrives in a beautiful box with a small but well illustrated guidebook. For the author cards you are given a short biography of each writer and for the tools you are given three words to associate with that image. Here there is little interpretation or guidance, so that if you are new to decks, this may not be for you. For my purposes, I find this deck very useful as a journaling prompt and a way to connect with the history of female authorship. I don 't find it useful for divination, but that may change with the time.

   SPEECHLESS
I am in love with this Oracle deck, it is just breathtaking the art & style is phenomenal, the book is thin but straight to the point. The cards are great in quality and are easy to shuffle. If you are thinking about purchasing this Oracle deck, I say go for it, you will not regret it, I recommend it 100%. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase.
