Book Overview

No story is more beloved by children and grown-ups alike than this wise, enchanting fable. The author reminisces about a day when his plane was forced down in the Sahara, a thousand miles from help. There he encountered a most extraordinary small-person. If you please, said the stranger, draw me a sheep. And thus begins the remarkable story of the Little Prince, whose strange history he learned, bit by bit, in the days that followed. There are few stories that in some way, in some degree, change the world forever for their readers. This is one.Antoine de Saint-Exupe ry (1900-1944) was the author of numerous books on the subject of aviation, many of which have become classics of French and world literature.

   book: The Little Prince
I bought this as part of a pair of French ones. A daughter- in- law and a grand- daughter are learning French. I bought the two for Christmas so that they would read them side- by- side and teach my other grandchildren a primer lesson that not all great literature starts out in English.

Not a hat but an elephant inside a boa constrictor
I wish I had learned more in French class to enjoy the untranslated version of the book. The Little Prince is a charming fable that makes a lot of points about what is important in life and how to live it, and it will linger in the reader's memory forever. The artwork is as good as the text. The Little Prince would be a well loved classic if the author had died of old age in his bed.

   An unassuming gem...
This was a classic that can be enjoyed by kids from 9 to 99 years old, as it can be seen on many different levels. It allows the reader to reflect on what is truly important in life, " what is essential, is invisible to the eye." It can also be interpreted by an older audience as a war fable. The novel has a direct correlation to Saint- Exupé ry's own life experience, when he was stranded after a crash- landing in the Sahara desert. He included symbolic references to his tumultuous relationship with his wife. One can see that this is a multi- faceted novel that has wisdom for any age. It was a pleasure to read.

   NOT the Katherine Woods translation!
Not the translation of the Woods family! The Richard Howard translation doesn't have the same feeling as the original one. The shading of the original artwork is off.

It's not the Katherine Woods translation! The Richard Howard translation doesn't have the same poetical feel as the original one. The shading is off, but it is reproduced.

There's a reason this book is a classic
T here is a purity to the book that is startling. I didn't read it until I was 50. It is beautiful. It was perfect.

   Timeless story
It was in perfect condition. I lost a copy of this book over 50 years ago. I wanted my oldest grandson to have a copy of the story for the library I am building for him because I read the story to him.

The Little Prince is a big joy to read and ponder about life, love and death!
Saint- expury was a fascinating person. He died in a plane over France during World War II. There is a book about a prince who lives on a star. He lands in the desert because he falls to earth. The narrator of the story has a plane crash. The Little Prince talks about his meetings with a business executive. There are people and animals. He shows us about love by caring for a small flower that is protected by four thorns. The greatest human gift is love and it is the focus of the tale. Children and grownups will be enchanted by the beautiful art work included in the story.
