Book Overview

Drawing from decades worth of primary sources, a unique look into the Chinese government's grand strategy and what its true foreign policy objectives mean for the United States.

For more than a century, no US adversary or coalition of adversaries--not Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, or even the Soviet Union--has ever reached sixty percent of US GDP. China is the sole exception, and it is fast emerging into a global superpower that could rival, if not eclipse, the United States. What does China want, does it have a grand strategy to achieve it, and what should the United States do about it?

In The Long Game, Rush Doshi draws from a rich base of Chinese primary sources, including decades worth of party documents, leaked materials, memoirs by party leaders, as well as careful analysis of China's conduct, to provide a history of China's grand strategy since the end of the Cold War. Taking readers behind the Party's closed doors, he uncovers Beijing's long, methodical game to displace America from regional and global order through three sequential strategies of displacement.    Need to read to understand what China is up to
It's a book that shines through at times in terms of how it is organized, even if it is a bit disorganized, said Dr. Chester Floyd, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is a better writer than most academics. 0 1472618781 15726474 It's just a matter of time, said Doshi. In fact, it is easily one of the best books on Chinese grand strategy ever written. Touting Doshi as a "scholar of the CCP's grand strategy," The Atlantic's Michael Snow added that "He goes right to the source by using the CCP's own words and documents, as well as its actions." It's quite compelling, Mr. Caramore said.

One of the best contemporary books on China
This is one of the few books on China written by experts and individuals new to the subject. Both are educational and entertaining. The book also offers a thorough overview of Chinese politics, leadership perspectives on the world, military modernization and global economic and international organization strategies. Paul Costello, J.D., said: "This course would highly recommend to anyone seeking to gain a deeper understanding of this critical subject."

   Fantastic book!
Anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like to meet Mao Zedong should read this book. The author has deep expertise in the topic and writes clearly and compellingly about both China's strategy to date and what the US should do next. This book is so good, I almost picked it up again.
