This Description may be from another edition of this product.

The most complete collection available, the New York Times bestselling book The Louvre: All the Paintings includes all 3,022 paintings from the permanent collection of the world's most popular museum in a practical and elegant paperback format.

The Louvre Museum houses many of the world's most celebrated and important art of all time -- from da Vinci's Mona Lisa to Vermeer's The Lacemaker -- making it also the most visited art museum in the world. The Louvre: All the Paintings allows you to experience every painting currently on display in the permanent collection in Paris, without ever having to step on a plane.
Divided and organized into the four main painting collections of the museum -- the Italian School, the Northern School, the Spanish School, and the French School -- the paintings are then presented chronologically by the artists' date of birth. Four hundred of the most iconic and significant paintings are illuminated with 300-word discussions by art historians Anja Grebe and Vincent Pomar de on the key attributes of the work, what to look for when viewing, the artist's inspirations and techniques, biographical information on the artist, the artist's overall impact on history, and more.
Immerse yourself in the wonder and dazzling display of the Louvre without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. Learn more about each artist and painting, and tour the realms of sensational masterpieces with this new paperback edition.

My daughter in-law had this on her wish list and when she opened the box at Christmas she was delighted to find it, it is something she really wanted.

The book is comprehensive, detailed, and thoroughly enjoyable
The book is comprehensive with good notes on painters and their paintings, it is well written and has encyclopedic depth. As well as an excellent book to browse through, it is a good reference source. While nothing can be as compelling as seeing the pictures directly as they hang in the Louvre, the quality of the reproductions in the book is of a very high standard.

   Great Book
It is a huge book and very thick, full of enormous paintings by many artists. I wish that some of the pictures could have been larger. But the book would be even larger.

   Small versions of big art
Maybe it's just me, but I couldn 't figure out how to enlarge them on my screen. I bought this for my significant other artist, it just sits on the shelf in her studio.

A very beautifully illustrated book of the painting
A very beautifully illustrated book of painting. Sometimes, a magnifying glass is helpful. The quality of the paper and the pictures are excellent.

   Beautiful Art Book
Though it would have been nice to have more full color plates to study art, it would have been beautiful full color pages. But 4 stars for quality and completeness with some interesting text worthy.

   Not ALL?
What is there is wonderful, but I believe there are more paintings included that are not included. This was disappointing. Among others, I was looking for the horse fair of Rosa Bonheur.

   Fantastic book
I have always wanted to fly to the Louvre, but I don 't like to go there. I live in Canada and so would have drowned if I had walked there. This book may have saved my life. The paintings in this giant tome are the greatest ever seen in the world. I love them all and put bookmakers on my favourite pages, allowing me to go straight to them whenever I find a quiet moment. Plus, it gives you hope that one day your painting will be in a book like this. My 3 favorite aviation art books are Warbirds by Adam Toby-Grumman F-14 Tomcat by Dave Parsons - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson All available from Amazon.

   Massive
I was at the Louvre twice before I was 26 and didn't really realize what I was seeing. When I was 49 and I realized then how much I want to know more about it all. This book is a great jumping off point and a wealth of information. I look forward to going back with a better understanding and a basic knowledge of the paintings that I want to see in person. The book contains a paragraph or more in a lot of cases about the artists and some of their specific painting. With the pictures they list the artist's name of the work when it was done or in what area it is used wood or canvas, etc. It also lists what floor and room the painting can be found at the Louvre.

Very beautiful hardcopy book of paintings.
We are hoping to go to Paris next year, and the Louvre is one of the places we want to visit. I wanted to see a preview of what is in this amazing museum. It is a beautiful glossy book with a nice binding paper to show the amazing artwork of the Louvre. The delivery was on time and the packaging was excellent. As much as possible, I order directly from Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon, so there is not much disappointment in my orders. I am not saying that Amazon is 100% accurate, but I have not had a very bad experience with them.
