A great book. Perfect for a first-year humanities class at a Christian college. Evangelicals have a soft spot for Lewis because of his evangelism. Though he is a conservative, he is radical. In "The Age of Enlightenment," Christian scholar Robert Baxter argues that Christian wisdom survives today because it was relevant to the times. The modern world is thin and the deep traditions are thick. He is best when he warns, Screwtape fashion, against the vague spiritualism, the fuzzy mysticism, the shallowness that can mire the minds of some who pursue the medieval-style thought. He shows how Boethius, Dante and Lewis offer a new-generation of thinking, stronger, deeper, further up and further in.
